The Faculty of Dramatic Arts is one of the three faculties of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. The mission of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts is primarily to provide higher education in the arts in two specific areas - theatre arts and film arts. An important priority is to strengthen the international position of FDU in order to provide quality comprehensive arts education based on active artistic research, artistic and other creative activities. An essential aim is to educate future generations of artists with an open artistic attitude and outlook. We place educational methods that promote teamwork at the forefront, but also an individual pedagogical approach, which implies a high degree of communication in the management and evaluation of students' work, with subsequent public presentation of learning activities that create feedback of the educational process. Thus, one of our priorities is to connect the educational process with the professional, professional, and wider public, which is not only stimulating but also necessary in the current conditions.
Students, through their individual and collective artistic activities, participate in shaping the cultural and artistic profiling of the school.
The Faculty of Dramatic Arts is the venue for several major international events:
International Banská Bystrica Theatre Conference. The conference is one of the oldest continuously held conference events both at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and in the Slovak context and has been organized by the AU Faculty of Dramatic Arts since 2003.
Festival ARTORIUM is an international project of art colleges, regularly organized by the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. In 2021, its 11th edition took place.
Students work and realize their artistic outputs in the Theatre of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica .
The theatre offers students of the Department of Acting and Theatre Directing and Dramaturgy a space for their artistic creation and its presentation, an opportunity to create beyond the teaching process and thanks to the audience to confront their artistic achievements. The Academy's theatre is the environment that most closely resembles their future practice.
At present, FDU AU has established collaborations and memoranda with various cultural and educational institutions from the external environment: the Potôň Theatre and Cultural Centre, the Trenčianske Enlightenment Centre in Trenčín, the Actores Municipal Theatre in Rožňava, the Central Slovak Enlightenment Centre in B. Bystrica, Central Slovak Museum B. Bystrica, M. Ondříček Film Academy in Písek. In the next period FDU AU wants to continue this trend. These activities are fully oriented to the needs of students' social and cultural practice.
The Faculty of Dramatic Arts systematically supports the artistic and artistic-research and publishing activities of university lecturers by focusing on their professional and qualification growth.
