The Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica consists of three faculties, the oldest of which is the Faculty of Performing Arts. It was founded when the Academy of Arts was established in 1997. The youngest faculty is the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, which was founded in 1999.
The Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica is a public university college with an artistic focus. The mission of the Academy is to develop harmonious personality, knowledge, wisdom and creativity in man and to contribute to the development of education, science and culture. The main role of the Academy in fulfilling its mission is to provide higher education and creative artistic activities in the fields of music, visual arts, performing arts, cinema arts and multimedia in three levels of higher education.
