About the portal
The Portal VS
Currently an information system of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.
The Portal VS was established in 2005—as a proposal by the EUNIS-SK association and with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic (currently the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic)—within the framework of central development projects.
The main objective of the Portal VS is to ensure the creation of systematically organized and professionally verified information regarding higher education institutions, to provide a space for the exchange of experience, and to disseminate information about conferences, seminars, and educational products.
The following entities participated in the development of the Portal VS: the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic (currently the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic), the Institute of Information and Prognoses of Education (ÚIPŠ), and various higher education institutions—specifically the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, the University of Žilina, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Trnava University in Trnava, the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, the Technical University of Košice, and the Catholic University in Ružomberok.
The Higher Education Portal was presented to the Ministry of Education on November 28, 2006, and to higher education institutions on February 15, 2007.
Content population began shortly thereafter. If you are interested in the automated retrieval of content from the Higher Education Portal (Portál VŠ) via XML exchange formats, please contact us at portalvs@portalvs.sk.

Central Electronic Application System
Currently an information system of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.
Purpose:
The information system was developed as a project (a module of the Portal VS) to fulfill Government Resolution No. 677 of August 15, 2007, in which the Government of the Slovak Republic approved the proposal for the "Electronicization of Higher Education Applications – Feasibility Study" as part of the roadmap for implementing electronic public administration services.
Following the approval of this document, a requirement arose to develop the "Electronicization of Higher Education Applications" project. This project addressed the feasibility of introducing a central electronic application service for prospective higher education students—covering all levels of study—utilizing information and communication technologies within the Higher Education Portal environment.
A pilot operation was launched in 2009, involving three higher education institutions and ten secondary schools. Objective derived from the Government Resolution:
To propose a system for implementing a centralized electronic application process for higher education institutions that:
- creates a new organizational and technical solution for applicants, enabling a transparent environment and a unified method for applying to higher education institutions;
- helps higher education institutions simplify admissions administration, integrate data collected by ŠVS and the institutions themselves, and implement e-government principles.
Objectives of centralized electronic application to higher education institutions:
- Creating a transparent environment for all higher education applicants.
- Standardizing the application process.
- Simplifying and streamlining the application process for applicants.
Making the application process easier and more efficient for applicants. Key benefits of centralized processing via the Portal VS
(benefits for applicants and higher education institutions):
- web portal available 24/7, running on state-of-the-art infrastructure
- use of a central database of accredited study programs
- use of a unified database of higher education institutions and faculties
- utilization of the central student register (data retrieval)
- reduced administrative workload for institutions that have not implemented their own electronic application systems
