Teacher training in art education (in combination)

This study program must be combined with one of the following study programs:

Faculty of Arts - teacher training in English language and literature (in combination)
Faculty of Arts - teacher training in history (in combination)
Faculty of Arts - teacher training in aesthetics (in combination)
Faculty of Arts - teacher training in German language and literature (in combination)
Faculty of Arts - teacher training in Slovak language (in combination)

The graduate of the 2nd degree of university studies in fine arts in combination is able to apply his/her acquired knowledge, skills and habits in planning, designing and implementation of the educational process at different types and stages of art education. The prerequisite for the completion of the study programme is the acquisition of the prescribed number of credits in the required structure.

Graduate's scope of knowledge:

Theoretical knowledge

knows current theoretical models of emotional and cognitive socialization and education of human beings, their personal and emotional development;
Knows theoretical models of emotional and cognitive socialization and education of human beings;
Knows theoretical models of personal and emotional development;
acquires knowledge of the methodology of individual sciences - pedagogical, psychological and fine arts sciences;
is well oriented in the history of Slovak and world art;

knows how to benefit from the disciplinary didactics of the subjects in accordance with the chosen purpose;
is theoretically and practically proficient in the technology of the different types of art, art techniques and materials;
understands the principles of making in art in a broader context;
has knowledge of the organization of artistic life and culture in domestic and global contexts;
knows the institutional and organizational structures of arts education;

Practical skills and abilities

knows how to express themselves fluently in all basic art disciplines;
is also proficient in selected specific artistic disciplines or selected artistic crafts;
knows art materials, basic techniques, technological processes and media from classical to contemporary art;
- knows how to modify artistic expression with respect to chosen style, intention, and socio-communicative context;
- can communicate promptly about visual art issues with both professional and didactic intent;
- has the ability to plan, design, and lead art education in in-school and out-of-school educational settings;
- responds creatively to the conditions of art and educational activities.
Additional knowledge, skills and abilities of the graduate:
- has acquired the ability to think critically and methodically;
- is guided by the principles of humanism and altruism in social contacts and in the educational process;
- is proficient in contemporary information and communication technologies and didactic technology;
- gains experience in the creation of artistic and educational projects;
- knows the methodology of interest art activities;
- knows the social, legal, economic and ethical aspects in the field;
- can also present himself/herself in artistic activities;

teacher of art education and related subjects at different types and levels of art education (primary schools, secondary schools, gymnasiums, art schools, universities)
independent worker in the field of culture
professional worker in galleries, museums, etc.
professional worker in advertising, art agencies, etc.

Acquires a full secondary university degree in teaching art and education with a concentration in the visual arts.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to study according to master's study programmes (second degree of higher education within the meaning of Section 53 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education) is the completion of the first degree study programme.

A candidate may be admitted to a master's study programme without an entrance examination if the master's study programme is a continuation of a bachelor's study programme in the given field of study and the candidate has passed the state examination in subjects equivalent to the subjects of the state examination of the corresponding bachelor's study programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov.

Additional information

a) A candidate may submit multiple applications for studies at the Faculty of Arts PU, indicating one study programme on one application form;

b) Applicants shall pay the fee by bank transfer or postal money order U, the proof of payment shall be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form;

c) Applications without proof of fee payment will not be accepted;

d) Basic data required to make a cross-border transfer from abroad via SWIFT network: swift address of the bank: SPSRSKBA, account number of the payee or account number of the SP client in the format SK87 8180 0000 0070 0007 8205; name of the bank: State Treasury, ul. Radlinského 32, 010 05 Bratislava 15; unabbreviated name and address of the payee, the client of the SP. 17. novembra 1, 080 78 Prešov, purpose of payment: fee VS 10100041;

e) Candidates studying at the Faculty of Arts PU or graduates of bachelor studies at the Faculty of Arts PU do not fill in the statement of results of bachelor studies in individual semesters and do not submit a confirmation of the correctness of the data. A structured curriculum vitae shall be attached to the application form;

f) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall fill in the first and second pages of the application form thoroughly;

g) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor's studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall submit a structured curriculum vitae and certified photocopies of documents certifying completion of studies (university diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement) with their application form. Officially uncertified photocopies will not be accepted;

h) Applicants who are completing their bachelor studies at a faculty other than the PU Faculty of Arts in 2025 shall attach to the application form a statement of the results of bachelor studies in individual semesters issued by the study department of the university (stamp and signature of the study department of the school/faculty);

i) Applicants for studies with specific needs: 1. Before applying for studies, they shall contact the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator in order to be advised on the choice of the field of study and the scope of support services at PU; 2. provide the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator with sufficient information about their limitations and needs, 3. contact the faculty coordinator well in advance (usually 1 month before the entrance examination) to ensure adequate conditions for the entrance examination. j) Candidates shall submit a medical certificate of medical fitness as part of the application form, which is available on the faculty's website;

k) The application for studies may also be submitted by an applicant who has not yet passed the Bachelor's State Examination for the type of study and cannot provide relevant data on the passing of the examination in the application form. Such an applicant shall submit proof of having passed this examination subsequently, at the latest by the deadline set by the faculty. If the applicant fails to submit this document, he/she may not be admitted to the study;

l) In the event that fewer candidates apply for a study programme than the minimum number set for that study programme, the dean may decide not to open the programme for a given academic year. The dean shall notify the applicants of this fact and invite them to change their study programme. If the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will refund the full admission fee;

m) The Faculty of Arts follows the internal regulation Principles of the Admission Procedure of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov, which was issued by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov on 16 September 2009.

Form of entrance exam

Without an entrance exam, or a combination of a talent test with an oral interview and a written knowledge test.

Tests

The test consists of the following parts:

Carbon head drawing (2 hours);
tempera painting - still life (2 hours);
presentation and assessment of homework;
oral interview on art history.

Knowledge written test of your choice of combination:

Teaching English language and literature combined: English language, British and American literature;
Teaching of history combined: general history, Slovak history;
teaching of aesthetics in combination: history and theory of aesthetics, history, theory and aesthetics of a selected type of art;
teaching of ethics in combination: history of philosophy and ethics, systematic ethics;
teaching philosophy in combination: history of philosophy, systematic philosophy;
Teaching of German language and literature combined: German language, German literature;
Teaching of Russian language and literature combined: Russian language and didactics of Russian language teaching, Russian literature;
Teaching of Slovak language and literature in combination: Slovak language, Slovak literature;
teaching of Ukrainian language and literature combined: Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature;
teaching of education for citizenship in combination: history of philosophy, general economic theory, sociology, basics of the theory of state and law, constitutional law.

The candidate will bring the following for the entrance examination:

domestic works (at least 20 works realized in different techniques - painting, drawing, graphics, photography, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, etc. - not in electronic form);
charcoal (natural);
plastic eraser;
tempera paints;
brushes;
water container;
palette (glass).
