Workplace profile

The Research Institute of Alpine Biology is a scientific institution of the University of Žilina. Its main mission is research at all levels of biological organization, from molecules to alpine ecosystems. It was founded in 2000 as a centre for the development of alpine biological research in the Western Carpathians. Another important task of the institute is to promote the understanding and conservation of alpine ecosystems.

The most enduring product of the Institute's activities is the important international scientific journal Oecologia Montana, which brings new knowledge about alpine and mountain biota. Currently, the Institute's facilities provide accommodation for 20 researchers and 20 students, a conference hall, a molecular ecology laboratory, and zoological and botanical laboratories.

Accommodation

during studies in Žilina - accommodation facility of the University of Žilina (taking into account the distance of permanent residence from the University's headquarters) accommodation fee 41 € - 51 €/month during studies in Tatranská Javorina - limited possibility of accommodation in the premises of the VUB according to the valid price list

All students are entitled to accommodation in accordance with the internal regulations of the University of Žilina. During studies in Tatranská Javorina there is a possibility of accommodation in the premises of VÚVB or in private accommodation facilities in the surrounding villages. VÚVB can help to find suitable accommodation for students.

Catering

Students have the opportunity to use the services of the catering facilities of the University of Žilina. While studying in Tatranská Javorina, students have the option of preparing their own meals at the VUB or individually.
