A graduate of the Master's degree in Teacher Education, German Language and Literature (combined) is qualified to be a teacher of German at lower and upper secondary level. He or she has a sound and extensive knowledge of German in terms of linguistic and communicative competence on the basis of mastery of the units of all levels of the language, their structure and functioning in speech, a good command of the linguistic norms, fluent oral and written communication at an appropriate level, the production of texts that are adequate in terms of content, theme and intention, and an understanding of the information received in different stylistic formats and text types. Possesses an extensive vocabulary, word-formation and sentence patterns that enable linguistic creativity in the production and reception of text. In communication, he/she is able to combine knowledge about his/her own country and German-speaking countries as well as knowledge about the world into meaningful and linguistically correct spoken and written texts and to understand such linguistic products. On this basis, he is appropriately creative, didactically and methodologically inventive and innovative with a view to achieving a high level of effect in his own pedagogical work or in work outside the sphere of teaching/education.
He is proficient in the basic content of pedagogical and psychological disciplines, didactics and methodology of language teaching and is able to design and implement teaching, analyse the teaching process and innovate it. He/she is able to adapt educational programmes and their variants in the teaching components of the subject to the specific abilities and interests of the pupils, the conditions of the class and the type of school. Knows and uses modern didactic technology, information technology and can support and develop pupils' information literacy. Transforms and incorporates up-to-date information about the life and culture of the countries of the German-speaking area into the classroom. He or she is equipped with knowledge of the earlier developmental stages of the German language and is familiar with the history, culture, music and architectural works of the German-speaking countries, which, together with the history of literature from the earliest written documents up to the present day, constitutes such a fund of knowledge and insight that a graduate of German studies can successfully apply himself or herself to a wide range of intellectually demanding professions beyond the teaching profession. He or she uses the foreign and mother tongue to learn more deeply about other cultures, to acquaint foreigners with our cultural and other values, and to communicate our country with the world.
Knows the trends, personalities and works of literature of German-speaking countries, knows the terminology of literary science (theory of literature) and the instrumentarium of stylistics and textual linguistics, which enables him/her to adequately analyze and interpret a literary work in terms of theme, motifs, style and aesthetic values, or to reflect on contemporary issues and write about them.

The basic condition for admission to study according to master's study programmes (second degree of higher education within the meaning of Section 53 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education) is the completion of the first degree study programme.
2)
A candidate may be admitted to a master's study programme without an entrance examination if the master's study programme is a continuation of a bachelor's study programme in the given field of study and the candidate has passed the state examination in subjects equivalent to the subjects of the state examination of the corresponding bachelor's study programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov.
Additional information
a) A candidate may submit multiple applications for studies at the Faculty of Arts PU, indicating one study programme on one application form;
b) Applicants shall pay the fee by bank transfer or postal money order U, the proof of payment shall be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form;
c) Applications without proof of fee payment will not be accepted;
d) Basic data required to make a cross-border transfer from abroad via SWIFT network: swift address of the bank: SPSRSKBA, account number of the payee or account number of the SP client in the format SK87 8180 0000 0070 0007 8205; name of the bank: State Treasury, ul. e) Candidates studying at the Faculty of Arts PU or graduates of bachelor studies at the Faculty of Arts PU do not fill in the statement of results of bachelor studies in individual semesters and do not submit a confirmation of the correctness of the data. A structured curriculum vitae shall be attached to the application form;
f) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall fill in the first and second pages of the application form thoroughly;
g) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor's studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall submit a structured curriculum vitae and certified photocopies of documents certifying completion of studies (university diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement) with their application form. Officially uncertified photocopies will not be accepted;
h) Applicants who are completing their bachelor studies at a faculty other than the PU Faculty of Arts in 2025 shall attach to the application form a statement of the results of bachelor studies in individual semesters issued by the study department of the university (stamp and signature of the study department of the school/faculty);
i) Applicants for studies with specific needs: 1. Before applying for studies, they shall contact the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator in order to be advised on the choice of the field of study and the scope of support services at PU; 2. provide the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator with sufficient information about their limitations and needs, 3. contact the faculty coordinator well in advance (usually 1 month before the entrance examination) to ensure adequate conditions for the entrance examination. j) Candidates shall submit a medical certificate of medical fitness as part of the application form, which is available on the faculty's website;
k) The application for studies may also be submitted by an applicant who has not yet passed the Bachelor's State Examination for the type of study and cannot provide relevant data on the passing of the examination in the application form. Such an applicant shall submit proof of having passed this examination subsequently, at the latest by the deadline set by the faculty. If the applicant fails to submit this document, he/she may not be admitted to the study;
l) In the event that fewer candidates apply for a study programme than the minimum number set for that study programme, the dean may decide not to open the programme for a given academic year. The dean shall notify the applicants of this fact and invite them to change their study programme. If the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will refund the full admission fee;
m) The Faculty of Arts follows the internal regulation Principles of the Admission Procedure of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov, which was issued by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov on 16 September 2009.
Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
1. The basic condition of admission to studies according to master study programmes (the second degree of university studies according to the Article 53 of the Act) is the completion of the study programme of the first degree.
2. Applicants for master study programme will be admitted without an entrance exam, if the master study programme is a continuation of the bachelor study programme in the given study field and if the applicant passed the state exam from subjects equivalent to subjects of the state exam corresponding with the bachelor study programme at the faculty and if their weighted study average during bachelor study did not exceed the limit of 2.5.

applicants will thoroughly fill out the first and the second page of the application form and will have the physician confirm their ability to studies on the application form (expressed in words, a signature and a stamp of the physician is not enough);
applicant who have not completed their Bachelor study at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov will attach to the application form their CV and verified photocopies of documents confirming completed studies (university diploma, state exam certificate, addenda to diploma). Photocopies not officially verified will not be accepted.
applicants with modified work ability will submit with the application form an evaluation issued by the evaluation committee;
application form to studies can be send also by such an applicant who have not yet taken bachelor state exam and can not indicate in the relevant part having passed the exam. Such applicant will submit a document on taking much exam additionally, no later than by a deadline set by the faculty. If the applicant does not submit such document, he/she can not be admitted to studies.
in case that fewer applicants than the minimum set number apply to a certain study programme (i.e. at least 15), the dean may decide not to open the programme in the given academic year and will announce it to the applicants and will asks them to change the study programme. In case that the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will return him/her the fee for admission procedure in full amount.
During the admission procedure, the Faculty of Arts follows internal regulation "Principles of admission procedure at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Prešov in Prešov" issued by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov on September 16, 2009.
