Social work as a field of study

Social work is a single-discipline study aimed at preparing professionals for the field of social work at all levels. The standard length of study in the full-time form is 3 years (6 semesters)

Study in Social Work prepares university-educated, independent workers capable of providing, coordinating and directly delivering social care and social services for all groups of the population dependent on any type of social protection.

Social work as a discipline:

Social work is a multidisciplinary field of scientific knowledge that deals with the scientific understanding of social problems - their origins, causes, possible solutions, the question of the responsibility of the citizen and the state, the optimal level and forms of assistance for the individual, group or community.



Prospects of graduates

The study programme responds to the needs of practice - to prepare a modern social work assistant who is ready to work with a client in a risky situation and in a risky environment. Graduates of this study programme usually work directly with the target client group within the state administration, local government and the third sector. He/she will find employment in social service institutions, institutions for social protection of children and adult guardianship. It seeks to help ensure optimal social functioning and improve the quality of life of clients. He or she also has professional communication skills, can work in a team and foster interprofessional and interdisciplinary cooperation, and presents his or her views professionally. She can be employed in institutions and organisations within the competence of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, in the Ministry of the Interior, in the Ministry of Justice, in the field of probation and mediation, in the field of public administration, as well as in the field of non-state actors. The graduate is prepared to work as a field worker and as an assistant counsellor who provides basic counselling to individuals, families, groups and the community. The graduate is prepared to work with a social worker in the preparation and implementation of research or project development. He/she is able to work on his/her further education.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition of admission to the three-year bachelor's study programme in the full-time form of study (completed by obtaining the degree "Bc") is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education.
Another condition of admission, in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites are admitted to the study, is a selection procedure.

Additional information

Applicants graduating in the school year 2024/2025 and earlier will send all necessary attachments with their application.
Applicants graduating in the school year 2025/2026 will submit all necessary attachments, except for the 4th grade report card and the high school diploma, which will be submitted by the deadline set by the faculty and which will be communicated to the applicant in writing in a timely manner.



Conditions for international students

The conditions of admission of foreigners, foreign students or students who
have completed secondary school studies abroad are the same as the conditions
of admission of students who have completed secondary school studies in the Slovak
Republic and are citizens of the Slovak Republic.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

The selection procedure consists of:

  1. an assessment of the merits achieved during secondary education. The overall average from secondary school from 3.6 to 1.0 is expressed
    in linear terms: average 1.0.... 100 points to 3.6 ... 0 points;
  2. a motivation letter in which the applicant indicates both his/her motivation to study and the abilities he/she has to master the study. Max. points is 10.
  3. documented specific activities, such as participation in high school scientific activities, volunteering, participation in various artistic, sports competitions, participation in projects, etc. For each documented activity, the applicant may receive 2 points.

4. documented medical fitness to study certified by a doctor. In the context of medical fitness, it is necessary to emphasize the fact that during the study, students, in addition to theoretical lectures, will also undergo a practice where they will work with a risky client in a risky environment.

5. Applicants who demonstrate the highest level of aptitude for the study, i.e. achieve the highest number of points, will be admitted to the study.

6. The results of the entrance examination will be published on the faculty's website.

7. Candidates who have completed their secondary education abroad

1.1. in case there is a recognition clause for a given country at https://uznavanie.minedu.sk/category/uznavacia-dolozka degree recognition - it is necessary to print it out (it is no longer confirmed or verified) and at the same time, together with the clause, to provide the following:

a) a notarized copy of the educational document from abroad, bound with an official translation into SJ

b) a notarised copy of the supplement to the diploma from abroad (transcript of courses taken), bound with an official translation into SJ

c) a notarised certificate of academic results for the last 4 years, bound with an official SJ translation

1.2. in the event that https://uznavanie.minedu.sk/category/uznavacia-dolozka does not have a degree recognition clause for the country in question, the following must be provided:

(a) a degree recognition decision - issued by the Regional Office of School Administration (ROSA)

b) a notarised copy of the supplement to the diploma from abroad (transcript of courses taken) bound with an official translation into SJ

(c) a notarised certificate of academic results for the last 4 years, bound with an official SJ translation

8. Those applicants who have not passed the matriculation examination in Slovak or Czech language must also pass a test in Slovak language - B1 level, prepared by the faculty, as part of the admission procedure. Only applicants who achieve at least 60% in the Slovak language test may be included in the selection procedure under points 1 to 3.
