Dental hygiene
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Prešov is an institution whose main task is to educate students in accredited non-medical study programmes at the level of contemporary knowledge, scientific and research results.
The Department of Dental Hygiene started its activity in the academic year 2004/2005. In accordance with the Higher Education Act, it provides tasks in the field of education, scientific and research activities, in the field of foreign relations, development activities. The main task of the Department is to educate dental hygienists by teaching subjects enabling students to build their professional personal profile so that they represent the highest level of professional quality of humanism. Individual profiling is made possible by a wider range of compulsory electives and elective courses. The graduate will obtain a complete first degree in dentistry, with an orientation towards the provision of health care in the profession of dental hygienist.
Prospects of graduates
A dental hygienist is a qualified health worker, able to work independently within the parameters of his/her clinical competence, under the supervision of a dentist and on his/her recommendation to carry out activities in preventive, curative and follow-up care of dental patients in the field of dental hygiene in the sections of prevention, rescue dentistry, periodontology, orthodontics, implantology, in outpatient and inpatient facilities, in facilities for the physically handicapped, in schools and educational institutions. He collaborates in research epidemiological studies in the field of dentistry, is involved in publishing, research and many other activities in the field of dental hygiene.

1. complete full secondary education with a high school diploma
2. The admission procedure consists of two parts:
Part 1
a) a written test in human biology within the scope of the gymnasium syllabus and in basic prevention and oral hygiene(min. 60% pass rate) a l l oSCIO test of the General Studies Aptitude Test (GSAT) in the framework of the National Comparative Examinations (NCE), which is provided by Scio.
b) Applicants who have a grade point average below 1.50 do not pass the first part of the entrance examination - applicants shall provide school-confirmed end-of-year report cards for Years 1-3 and mid-year report cards for Years 4 or 5 of secondary school with the application form. If the school does not certify the benefits, applicants must provide officially certified school reports. If applicants do not provide the above information with their application form, they will have to take a written test - point 2a.

c) criterion No. 2, point b) not valid for foreign students (outside the Czech Republic), they have to pass the admission procedure, namely written test from human biology within the scope of the gymnasium curriculum and written test from the basics of prevention and oral hygiene (60% success rate in both tests) (in the Slovak language)

Participation in Part 2 of the entrance examination is conditional on successful completion of Part 1.
4. meeting the criteria of medical fitness for the profession according to the Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic No. 364/2009, which establishes the criteria of medical fitness for applicants for medical fields of study
Additional information
The application must contain the following:
1/ Application(form):
electronic application form (admission fee 40 EUR) applicants complete and submit their electronic application form on the HE Portal website: Electronization of Application to Universities | ApplicationVŠ.sk or on the website of the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth of the Slovak Republic: Application for studies, tax return extract and other forms | Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic
- electronic application form with attachments should be printed ´, signed , and sent by post to the address of the Faculty of Health Professions of PU
- without receiving the printed electronic application form along with attachments, the electronic application form is invalid and the candidate will not be included in the admission process!
2/ Evidence of merit:
Applicants applying for the Day Form of study must complete and provide evidence of high school grades for each year. The application form must list the end-of-year report card grades 1-3 and the half-year grade 4 or grade 5 benefit. This benefit must be confirmed by the high school on page 3. If the secondary school does not certify the benefit, the applicant shall submit notarised report cards for each year with the application form.
After the matriculation examination, applicants shall deliver the notarized matriculation certificate to the faculty address as soon as possible, at the latest on the day of the entrance examination!
Applicants applying for external form of study do not have to fill in or prove their high school grades for each year. As proof of completion of secondary education, they shall submit only an officially certified matriculation certificate
with their application form.
3/ Other application documents (form attachments to the online application form):
(a) certification by a medical practitioner of the applicant's medical fitness to practisethe medical profession
(b) structured curriculum vitae
c) proof of Slovak language proficiency- level B1 - to be provided by foreign applicants (except applicants from the Czech Republic) (see chap. 1.4)
4/ In case the applicant wants to apply for more study programmes at the faculty, he/she must submit a separate application for each study programme separately and pay the fee for each application separately.
5/ Only those candidates who submit a duly completed application form, attach all the required enclosures, pay the admission fee and meet the required criteria within the stipulated deadline ( 31 March 2026) will be invited for the entrance examination. An alternative date for the entrance examination may only be requested in writing in the event of a serious medical reason, no later than 24 hours after the date of the entrance examination (the application must be accompanied by a relevant medical report of the medical problem, not a certificate of treatment). The faculty does not grant a make-up date in the event of a failed entrance examination.
6/ Administrative fee for the admission process, will not be refunded to applicants in the following cases:
a) if the application form is incomplete and the applicant fails to do so even after being asked to complete the required documents within 5 days
b) if the applicant does not meet the required criteria and has applied for the course anyway
c) if the applicant applies for a study programme which the faculty does not plan to implement in the given academic year
d) if he/she does not enrol for the study
If the student/applicant makes an erroneous payment, he/she will be charged a fee for the erroneous payment in accordance with the current PU Presov price list for the academic year in which he/she applied and the remaining funds will be refunded to the sender's bank account.
7/ ALL THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED ARE REQUIRED AND AN APPLICATION WITHOUT THEM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
8/External form of study is charged according to Act No.131/2002 on Higher Education and its amendment No.363/2007 Coll. The amount of tuition fees is published on the faculty's website http://www.unipo.sk/fakulta-zdravotnictva.
The length of study in the study programme in the external form at the bachelor's degree is 3 years!
Conditions for international students
Information for foreign applicants in Slovak language:
Study in study programmes at the 1st and 2nd level of higher education and in full-time and external form, which is carried out in the Slovak language, requires knowledge of the Slovak language at least at the B1 level. We recommend that applicants from abroad (except applicants from the Czech Republic) verify and prove their mastery of the Slovak language by a Slovak language matriculation examination, an ECL (European Consortium for the Certificate of Attaiment in Modern Languages) certificate of Slovak language proficiency at B1 level, a certificate of Slovak language proficiency at B1 level issued by a language school included in the network of schools and school facilities of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic (the list is available at: https://www.cvtisr.sk/buxus/docs//JH/stat_zus.pdf ). Proficiency in the Slovak language is verified in written tests for foreign applicants.
Slovak language proficiency at B1 level:
a) in the field of comprehension:
- the candidate understands the main ideas expressed in written language on common topics encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. Understands the meaning of many radio and TV programmes on current affairs or topics related to areas of personal or professional interest if they are spoken relatively slowly and clearly
- Understands texts which contain everyday vocabulary or which relate to work or study. Can understand descriptions of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters
b) in the area of communication:
- Demonstrates ability to cope with most situations that may arise when travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can engage in conversation without preparation on topics that he/she is familiar with, interested in or related to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current affairs)
- knows how to string phrases together in a simple way to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and goals. He/she can give concise reasons and explanations for his/her views and plans. Can tell a story or relate the content of a book or film and describe his/her reactions.
c)in the area of written expression:
- can write simple coherent sentences on topics that he/she knows well or that are of personal interest to him/her. Can write private letters describing experiences and impressions.
Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
Applicants who have a grade point average below 1.50 do not pass the first part of the entrance exam - applicants shall submit a school-confirmed final year report card for grades 1-3 and a mid-year report card for grades 4 or 5 of secondary school with the application form. If the school does not certify the benefit, applicants shall submit officially certified school reports.
If the applicant does not submit the above mentioned elements with the application form, he/she will have to take a written test - point 2a.
