Charity and social work
The general characteristics of the profile of the graduate of the study programme CHARITATIVE AND SOCIAL WORK is conditioned by the primary focus of the study of the 3rd degree. The aim of the study programme is primarily the preparation of professional pedagogical and scientific cadres and scientific and research workers for the needs of tertiary education, research institutions, the Church and professional staff for governing bodies at higher levels. Graduates of doctoral studies in the study programme Charity and Social Work possess the necessary knowledge about the forms and methods of social and charity work, about the social policy of the state and the Church, about its development trends, about the theory of social work and its spiritual dimensions and the possibilities of its application in solving social problems.
The study of Charity and Social Work creates the prerequisites for the preparation of professionals in a study directly conditioned by contemporary social and ecclesial needs. It prepares workers for work in the field (ecclesial community), for work in special organizations and institutions, including ecclesiastical ones (Philanthropy), as well as for research activities and various social analyses. Within the field, therefore, space is given to the disciplines of theology (as a basic starting point), sociology, psychology, law, history, philosophy, ethics, education and ethnology-ethnography, so that the student obtains the necessary optimal synthesis of knowledge, which he or she integrates into a coherent special program of study - CHARITABLE AND SOCIAL WORK.
CHARITATIVE AND SOCIAL WORK as a study programme:
- It responds to the dynamics of the development of the supporting state-of-the-art theoretical knowledge necessary for scientific work in the field of charity, social services, social protection of children and social policy.
- It presents the mastery of complex processes in the field of charity, social services, social protection of children and social policy, especially by way of developing abstract thinking and mastering modern methodologies.
- leads to the ability to apply theoretical knowledge and research findings of other authors in the field, in the form of a creative approach in solving, quantifying and analyzing complex contexts and in examining real processes in the field of charity, social services, social protection of children and social policy.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of the CHARITATIVE AND SOCIAL WORK study programme have the opportunity to enter the labour market in various fields based on several study trajectories offered:
Primary employment of graduates:
- college educator in social work or other related discipline,
- scientific researcher in social work or other related discipline,
- manager in social service institutions,
- methodologist and coordinator of social projects and programmes,
- social analyst and diagnostician,
Secondary employment of graduates consists in expert or professional activity as a social worker for the needs of the following institutions and fields of social work: Children's homes, diagnostic centres, crisis centres, re-education centres, leisure centres, social service facilities, field social work, youth associations, support service agencies, streetwork, work with minorities, especially work with the Roma community, social work with addicts, social work with families, social work with clients at risk, penitentiary and post-penitentiary social work, crisis intervention, social work in schools, NGOs and associations focused on social work, social project administration, social services manager, etc.

Level of students and graduates of the study programme
The graduate of the study programme CHARITATIVE AND SOCIAL WORK (3rd degree) is competent to act independently in professional life, has the ability for purposeful and responsible management and organization of his/her personal, social and professional life. He/she is able to make effective decisions, choices, actions and to propose correct procedures. He/she has the ability to adopt a culture of thinking and cognition, and to work in diverse groups of professional teams.

Daily form of study:
-- graduate of PBF PU in Prešov (master's degree) or graduate of another domestic or foreign university in the field of study Social Work or related field (relatedness is evaluated by the guarantor of the study programme)
-- benefit up to 1,5
External form of study:
-- basic requirements are the same as for the full-time form
-- results of previous professional activity
-- if the applicant is a teaching staff member at another faculty, he/she shall also submit the consent of the dean of this faculty or the head of the department
Conditions for international students
For students from abroad, differential examinations may be determined (if necessary) and the study is to be nostrified according to the legislation in force.

The admission procedure for the study field of Social Work includes an examination in the theory of social work and social sciences, methodology of social sciences, quantitative and qualitative methods of social research and one world language
Form of entrance exam
The entrance examination is oral and includes a debate on a research issue related to the topic of the projected dissertation.
