Applied Informatics
The graduate of doctoral studies has an active knowledge of a foreign language (English), is able to work in a team, to forecast developments in his/her field of study. The graduate has the ability to independently solve challenging scientific problems in a wide range of areas of applied informatics, in which he/she can creatively apply advanced methods and techniques of design and development of information technology applications and at the same time is ready for immediate entry into the labour market. Graduates will learn to search, process and interpret information from available sources (scientific databases, professional publications). The obtained results can be processed, published and presented at scientific events. Students are also involved in solving scientific projects, thus developing and deepening the principles of scientific work, solving complex problems, analytical and synthetic thinking, and a sense of teamwork.
The graduate of the study programme is a professional who finds employment in various areas of social practice. He/she is able to participate in research, development and innovation in the field of applied informatics.
Absolvent:
- obtains a third-level university degree in applied informatics,
- has an active command of the English language,
- understands applied informatics as a discipline and field of knowledge as well as a profession in its broader societal context,
- is able to work in a team and forecast developments in his/her field,
- can work creatively on current research and development problems,
- can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide range of topics within a multidisciplinary context that are directly applicable to solving problems based on real-world needs,
- is proficient in the scientific methods of research and development in the field of applied informatics, focusing in particular on methods and means of designing informatics tools for solving problems in selected problem areas,
- has the ability to learn, enabling him/her to continue individual further education,
- has basic management skills, can lead a research team and plan team tasks,
- is aware of the social, ethical, legal and economic context and responsibilities of his/her profession.
Based on the acquired knowledge, the graduate of the study programme is also qualified to teach specialised computer science subjects at university.
The graduate
- is prepared for a scientific career in the field of applied informatics or in related fields as well as for immediate entry into the labour market,
- finds employment as a manager or member of a creative team in the development centres of companies, or in various other positions in the IT industry that require research and development work in the field of applied informatics,
- find employment also in the academic sphere as a researcher at universities and research institutions in Slovakia and abroad.

The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is a university education of the 2nd degree (Section 56 (3) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
Graduates of domestic or foreign universities may apply for admission to the studies if they have completed a master's or engineering degree.
Additional information
The application form must include:
- university diploma officially certified (registry office/notary) in the same or related field and programme,
- state examination certificate officially certified (registry office/notary),
- brief curriculum vitae together with an inventory of published and unpublished works,
- outline project on the topic of the dissertation,
- proof of completed work experience (not compulsory),
- proof of payment of the admission procedure fee.
A candidate who is a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava shall provide uncertified photocopies of the diploma and the state examination certificate.
Candidates shall apply for the listed topics, which are published on the faculty's website.
In the course of admission to doctoral studies, an admission interview will take place in the form of an interview, where the applicant presents his/her motives, project on the topic of the dissertation and prerequisites for the study, as well as knowledge of a foreign language. The candidate becomes a PhD student after successful completion of the selection procedure and after enrolment in the PhD programme on the basis of the admission decree of the Dean of the Faculty.
Conditions for international students
Admission conditions for international students are the same as for students from the Slovak Republic. The condition of admission to the study programme conducted in Slovak language is the knowledge of Slovak language at the level enabling the study in Slovak language.
Foreign applicants prove their knowledge of the language with a Certificate of Slovak language proficiency at the B2 level.
