Physical education teacher

Applicants for admission to the first degree programme must have completed secondary education and possess the intellectual and personal prerequisites for successful completion of higher education at the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University. Candidates for study at PF KU are committed to respecting the Catholic spirit of the University and the Faculty. No discriminatory criteria in terms of age, nationality, gender, political or religious beliefs will be applied in the selection of applicants.
Applicants to study Physical Education must possess competences, especially in the biological sciences, communication, organisational and management skills, use of information and communication technologies and mathematical literacy. In the motor field, they must have mastered a wide range of motor activities and demonstrate an adequate level of fitness and coordination skills and the ability to learn new movements (motor aptitude).
An active approach to study is required of applicants in attending lectures, seminars and exercises, in independent study and in improving their motor skills. In terms of personal qualities, applicants are expected to be motivated to study their chosen field, flexible, responsible, empathetic and interested in working with a diverse age population and in their own self-development.

Prospects of graduates

A graduate of the 1st degree (Bachelor's degree) is primarily prepared so that he/she can successfully continue his/her studies in the chosen study programmes at the 2nd level of higher education. He/she has a general outlook and understands the broader context of education. He/she is a theoretically and practically prepared expert in the subject specialisation of physical education. His knowledge, pedagogical and professional skills make him professionally and pedagogically competent to plan, manage, diagnose and evaluate the educational process of physical education in primary and secondary schools. He is able to organize and lead the physical education process also in the field of school and extracurricular activities of pupils and to apply as an animator of leisure-time physical and sport activities of youth and adults of different age categories. The acquired knowledge and skills enable him to find employment in various social and physical education institutions, as well as in specialized departments of the state administration in the field of education and training.

Conditions of admission

The number of admitted students for the academic year 2021/2022 may be adjusted according to the interest in study and according to the possibilities of the PF KU.
According to §92 of the Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended by later regulations, external students and students of the extra-standard form of study of the PF KU admitted to the first year of bachelor's studies starting from the academic year 2021/2021 will study for a fee in accordance with the Rector's Directive on the amount of tuition fees and fees associated with studies at the Catholic University of Ružomberok.
Students of the first year of bachelor's studies will be guaranteed accommodation in the dormitories by the University.

- obtaining a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education (§56, par. 1 of the Higher Education Act);
- a motivational interview with the applicant (the applicant presents to the admissions committee his/her ideas about studying at PF KU, as well as his/her expectations from studying at PF KU and commits to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty);
- for the teaching study programmes in art education, music education, musical arts and physical education, successful completion of the talent test is required (see the talent test section);
- other study programmes - without talent test.
The ranking of applicants will be based on the following rules:
1. Motivational interview with the candidate for study (50% of the total evaluation), results in high school (50% of the total evaluation).
2. In the case of talent exams, the evaluation is calculated as follows:
30% for the results at high school, 30% for the motivational interview and 40% for the talent exam.
The average value of the marks in the subjects of the final exam is calculated for the study candidate. This value is multiplied by the coefficient of the secondary school from which the applicant has graduated:
- coefficient 1 for grammar school,
- coefficient 2 for vocational secondary school,
- coefficient 3 for vocational secondary school with matriculation diploma.

The resulting value determines the applicant's position in the order of success in the admission procedure.
If a greater number of applicants meet the admission requirements for a given study programme, those applicants who have demonstrated the highest level of aptitude for the study according to the admission requirements will be admitted.

General information on the admission exam

If an applicant wishes to apply for more than one study programme, he/she must apply for each programme separately. The applicant should send the application form to the department (city) at which he/she wishes to study.
The following must be attached to the application form:
- curriculum vitae;
- a certified copy of the matriculation certificate;
- an applicant for a study programme in the following subjects: biology, geography, chemistry, computer science, mathematics or single-subject computer science, must also provide a certified copy of the secondary school certificate of the last year of study,
- proof of payment of the fee, which must be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form. Without proof of payment, the application will not be registered. The admission fee is non-refundable!;
- the applicant for the study programme of pre-school and elementary education and pre-school and elementary education of socially disadvantaged groups shall also submit a medical certificate on the ability to take physical education without limitations and a certificate from a professional employee - speech therapist that the applicant does not have impaired communication skills;
- the applicant for the study programme of physical education teacher shall also submit a medical certificate on medical fitness;
- applicants who require specific conditions for health reasons shall inform the faculty in writing when submitting their application;
- in the case of applicants who have obtained their secondary education abroad, a decision on the recognition of a foreign document of secondary school education for academic purposes and the transfer of grades to the Slovak grading scale - equivalence (more information on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic: http://minedu.

Confirmation of application registration and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants in writing. In case of a small number of applicants for the study of teaching in one of the subject combinations, the faculty will propose applicants to study in other combinations.

Form of entrance exam

Talent exams are held on the following dates:

The music education or musical arts board exam consists of a practical part, a written test and an interview with the candidate. The skills and knowledge required are at least at the level of a graduate of a primary school. For more information:
The Art Talent Examination consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. Theoretical knowledge is demonstrated by students in the exam in art history, which focuses on historical or contemporary issues in the visual arts. The practical exam consists of active creative work, which is realized from the surface art disciplines and from the spatial art disciplines. The student carries out the practical examination on a topic and in a technique that is announced at the time of the entrance examination. The practical examination also includes a presentation of the candidate's portfolio in intermedia, design and craft, surface art disciplines and spatial art disciplines.
Physical education entrance examination is aimed at testing the physical prerequisites:
- level of fitness: 50 m run and 12 min. endurance running,
- sport specific skills: gymnastic routine (forward roll, backward roll, fly roll, handstand, handstand, backstroke),
- swimming fitness: 50 m swim (crawl or breaststroke).
