Creation and Construction of Furniture
Graduates possess knowledge in the following areas: the structure and properties of wood; primary and secondary wood processing; CAM systems and woodworking machinery; adhesives and wood bonding, coatings and surface treatments, furniture construction using traditional and modern joints and technical equipment for furniture, and testing and evaluating the safety and functionality of furniture structures. They take a creative approach to the comprehensive design of furniture structures and to solving tasks related to the technical preparation of furniture and wood product manufacturing.
Graduates possess the necessary skills in technical drawing, utilizing modern CAD software. They can process outputs from CAD software into the technical data needed for programming CNC machines used in the woodworking and furniture industries.
They can effectively coordinate collaboration among designers, technologists, specialists in other technical fields, and managers. They work creatively and flexibly as part of a team of furniture designers, in the production and marketing of furniture and wood products, and are able to stay abreast of developments in their field.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of the Furniture Design and Construction program will find employment as specialists in the field of woodworking and the manufacture of furniture and wood products, in both the public and private sectors. They can find employment in technical positions at furniture and wood product manufacturing facilities, in pre-production and design preparation, in securing and fulfilling orders, in interior design studios and furniture stores as technical advisors, and in furniture testing laboratories as technical specialists. They may also work as independent furniture designers, furniture manufacturers, CNC machine operators in furniture production, or as quality control inspectors for manufacturing processes.
By completing the Furniture Design and Construction program, graduates will acquire the professional skills and meet the expectations required to perform the following jobs competently:
- Technology specialist in furniture manufacturing, wood processing, and the production of wooden structures
- Product specialist
- Specialist in testing and conformity assessment
- Foreman (supervisor) in woodworking production

Admission to the Furniture Design and Construction program is based solely on an evaluation of high school academic performance, with no entrance exams required.

- Applications must be submitted EXCLUSIVELY online at https://is.tuzvo.sk/prihlaska/
- Required attachments: - All information needed to submit your application can be found after creating your e-application in the university system (UIS), - Attachments must be uploaded electronically.
- Applicants who are graduating from high school in the academic year in which they are applying for admission the grade point average and a transcript of grades from the end-of-year report cards for grades 1–3 of high school must be confirmed by the principal of the applicant’s graduating high school on the e-application form,
- All applicants are required to upload scanned copies of their high school graduation certificate and their 4th-year report card to the university’s system immediately upon receipt—or to bring OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED COPIES on the day of enrollment,
- Applicants who took their high school graduation exams last year or earlier must attach a scan of their high school graduation diploma and all high school transcripts (vocational schools, post-secondary studies) and must list in the application the grade point average for each year as shown on the end-of-year report cards for grades 1–4 (or grade 5 as well), 3
- A separate application for higher education must be submitted for each degree program and form of study,
- International students apply for and are admitted to study under the same conditions as applicants from Slovakia,
- Applicants are admitted based on an evaluation of their high school academic performance (except for applicants to the Furniture and Interior Design program),
- Information about registered applications will be published on the Technical University’s website, in the UIS system under “Admissions Test Results” after entering the applicant’s birth number: http://is.tuzvo.sk/prijimacky/verejne_vysledky.pl,
- the faculty will send an invitation to applicants for the field of study “Art,”
- The number of admitted students is planned separately for each study program,
- The results of the entrance exams and selection procedures will be published on the website after they have been evaluated at: http://is.tuzvo.sk/prijimacky/verejne_vysledky.pl or on the faculty’s website https://df.tuzvo.sk/sk/vysledky-prijimacieho-konania.
