Creation and Construction of Furniture
Graduates of the master’s degree program in Furniture Design and Construction are able to independently and creatively design, manage, and oversee complex technological processes in woodworking and furniture manufacturing. They possess knowledge of technological processes involved in wood processing and its transformation into furniture and wood products, the interaction of wood with other materials and various forms of energy, and the modification of wood to intentionally alter its properties. When designing furniture, they can apply their knowledge of the latest materials and structural concepts and are able to independently solve problems, not only in relation to the production, functionality, and safety of furniture, but also in relation to the environment and the surrounding impacts on the environment.
Based on research, graduates are able to design and evaluate innovative technological processes in furniture production that lead to improvements in the quality of surface finishes, the efficient use of energy and wood as a structural material; they are able to propose the essence of innovation in wood-based structural materials, structural joints, or furniture structures, and, based on research, can develop methodologies for evaluating their properties. They are competent to manage a team of workers in the field of furniture manufacturing and to take responsibility for their activities. Graduates of the program possess the skills and motivation to stay abreast of the latest developments in the fields of furniture design and construction, woodworking technologies, and the development of new structural materials.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates will find employment as specialists and managers in the fields of technology, management, maintenance, and furniture production design, as well as specialists in the development of science, research, and innovation in the furniture industry; they may also work as teachers of technical subjects at secondary vocational schools. They will work as team leaders of design teams or as independent specialized designers of furniture and wood products, as well as creators of comprehensive technical and technological documentation for furniture production. The learning outcomes and qualifications obtained upon completion of the study program meet the sector-specific professional expectations for the performance of these occupations:
- Manager in wood processing and the manufacture of wood products
- Specialist in the field of technical standardization
- Research and development specialist in furniture manufacturing, wood processing, and the production of wooden structures,
- Quality control specialist in furniture manufacturing, wood processing, and the production of wooden structures

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
1. Admissions process for students in the fields of study Woodworking, Economics and Management and Security Sciences
Admission of applicants is conducted through a selective admissions process without the applicant’s participation. The evaluation of the selective admissions process is based on the total points from three criteria.
Criterion 1: The results of the bachelor’s program are evaluated as the grade point average (GPA) for the 3rd or 4th year of the bachelor’s program, plus the GPA from the state exam and the defense of the final thesis. The GPA is calculated using the following scale: A=1; B=1.5; C=2; D=2.5; E=3. An applicant can earn a maximum of 100 points.
Criterion 2: Graduates of the same field of study receive a bonus of 10 points.
Criterion 3: A graduate of the Faculty of Wood Technology receives a bonus of 10 points.
Total maximum of 120 points for the three criteria
Graduates of a related field of study are required to complete selected core courses in Wood Science from the first level of study without receiving academic credit.

The basic requirement for admission to an engineering or master’s program is completion of at least the first level of higher education.
All documents must be uploaded to the online application in the university system (UIS) in electronic form; there is no need to send them by mail.
You will find all information about the required documents after creating your e-application. Please have the following ready:
- a scan of your first-cycle university diploma,
- a scan of your state examination certificate,
- a scan of the diploma supplement (a transcript of the results of the exams taken during the bachelor’s program, including the weighted grade point average for the bachelor’s degree),
- The electronic application for admission must be submitted during the application period,
- A separate application for higher education must be submitted for each degree program,
- International students apply for and are admitted to the program under the same conditions as applicants from the Slovak Republic,
- A condition for admission to the fields of study Woodworking, Economics and Management, Security Sciences, Arts is passing the selective admissions process
- Information about registered applications from applicants will be published on the Technical University’s website, in the UIS university system under “Admissions Test Results” after entering the applicant’s birth number:

- The number of admitted students is determined separately for each study program,
- the ranking of students admitted to study programs is determined based on the results achieved in the admissions selection process,
- The results of the admissions selection process will be published on the Technical University’s website, in the UIS university system under “Admissions Exam Results,” after entering the applicant’s birth number and once the results have been evaluated, at the following address: http://is.tuzvo.sk/prijimacky/verejne_vysledky.pl or on the faculty’s website https://df.tuzvo.sk/sk/vysledky-prijimacieho-konania,
- Applicants who complete the admissions process will be admitted to the program in order of the total number of points earned in the admissions process until the planned number of students to be admitted for the given study program is reached.
