Landscape and Garden Architecture

Graduates of the Garden and Landscape Architecture program will acquire a body of knowledge in related humanities disciplines and the fundamentals of creative processes. They will complete technical and relevant technological subjects. Graduates have knowledge of natural and technical sciences, landscape science, art and aesthetics and design and construction subjects. They master the history, theory and tools of garden and landscape design, know the range of plants used in garden and landscape-architectural design, as well as the technology of planting implementation. Graduates have knowledge in information technology and applied computer graphics, as well as in the establishment and maintenance of green spaces.



Prospects of graduates

Graduates are able to work in professional teams, as well as independently, in the field of creating urban greenery. They are able to solve simple landscape-architectural arrangements and document them through manual and computer graphics. Graduates are able to design small architectural structures. They are professionally prepared to carry out activities related to the protection and creation of the environment. They can run a private business in the field of green space creation and management.

Conditions of admission

BASIC CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY

The basic condition for admission to the study according to §56 (1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended, is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education. Secondary schools with the greatest prerequisite for related studies at FZKI SPU in Nitra are: e.g. grammar schools of all types, secondary vocational schools of horticultural, agrotechnical, agricultural, forestry, woodworking, artistic, construction and technical orientation, as well as secondary schools focused on surveying, environment, tourism and rural development.

FURTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission Talent Test is compulsory for applicants to the Landscape and Landscape Architectureprogramme of study. For this study programme, the ranking of applicants shall be based on the results of the entrance talent test. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the results of the secondary school will be taken into account.

For applicants who have already studied at the Faculty of Physical Education and Culture, the results obtained in secondary school, including the matriculation examination, and the results obtained in studies at the faculty are considered.

For applicants who are not admitted to the priority study programme (in case of exceeding the planned number of admissions or in case of failure to meet the admission conditions), the Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to admit the applicant to another, related study programme.

An applicant with specific needs shall, at his/her request, have the form of the entrance examination and the manner of its conduct determined, taking into account his/her specific needs, on the basis of an evaluation of his/her specific needs.

Additional information

A candidate may apply for more than one study programme implemented at the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering (within one admission fee) on one application form (electronically),

  • Applicants who graduated earlier than in the year 2026 shall send photocopies of their high school diplomas for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of high school - they do not have to be certified and a certified copy of the high school diploma (notary, registry office) to the following address: the Study Department of the Faculty of Agriculture and Landscape Architecture of the University of Agriculture and Landscape Architecture in Nitra, Tulipánová 7, 949 76 Nitra
  • Applicants who graduate in 2026 send a photocopy of the report cards for the 1st, 2nd and third year of secondary school, or a statement of grades for the above mentioned years confirmed by the secondary school to the following address: the Study Department of FZKI SPU in Nitra, Tulipánová 7, 949 76 Nitra.
  • Applicants who graduate in 2026 shall immediately after passing the matriculation examination electronically via the University Information System (UIS) upload a scan of the matriculation certificate and a certified copy of the matriculation certificate (notary, registry office) shall be sent to the address: Study Department of FZKI SPU in Nitra, Tulipánová 7, 949 76 Nitra.
  • Applicants for studies shall attach to the electronic application a curriculum vitae and a copy of the matriculation certificate, proof of payment of the fee for material security of the admission procedure.
  • Invitation to the entrance talent test and admission interview or admission decision will be sent only to applicants who attach proof of payment of the fee for the admission procedure to the application form
  • Nincomplete applications (e.g. without proof of payment of the fee) will not be accepted,
  • Faculty will send information to applicants for study about the method of conducting the talent entrance examination and conducting the interview one week after the closing date for applications, and, if necessary, further information about the admissions procedure after the complete application for study has been registered.

INFORMATION FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS, RESP. FOR Candidates who have graduated abroad

In addition to the required attachments, foreign applicants or applicants who have graduated abroad are required to attach a Decision on Recognition of Education Document to the Application Form (http://www.uniag.sk/en/admission-requirements/). Decision on the recognition of a diploma is issued by the competent Regional Office of School Administration according to the place of residence of the applicant. The procedure for the processing of the above-mentioned documents is set out on the website of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic

In the case of a foreign applicant without a residence permit in the Slovak Republic, the decision is issued by the Regional Office of School Administration in Nitra, J. Vuruma 1, 949 01 Nitra application for recognition of an educational document.

The basic condition for admission to studies according to §56 (1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended, is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education. In the case of persons who have been granted asylum, subsidiary protection or temporary refuge, this requirement may be demonstrated by an affidavit and a general aptitude test. Details will be determined by the faculties in the admission requirements.

Foreign applicants (the exceptions are applicants from the Czech Republic and applicants who have graduated from the Slovak language) who apply to study a study programme offered at SPU in Nitra in the Slovak language and in a combination of Slovak and English must compulsorily pass an online test and an online oral interview aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Nitra Language Centre (https://cj.uniag.sk/sk/domov/) on two dates, which applicants will be informed about in advance.

After passing the language test, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of the summary result of the online test and the online interview, which will correspond to the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The test and the certificate are subject to a fee of € 30,-.

If the applicant's level of language proficiency is below A1, the applicant will not

admitted to the study.

If the applicant's language proficiency level is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the study, but will be obliged to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organised by the Centre of Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: 120,- €). The course will run from 25 August 2025 to 5 September 2025. Upon completion of the course, a certificate of completion will be issued to the applicant.

If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the admission requirements.

Form of entrance exam

Admission Talent Test

It is conducted to ensure that candidates with the necessary skills and aptitude are admitted to study the programme. It tests the skill of composition in drawing still life from living material and still life from composite geometric shapes, study of light and shadow, factual representation of material, mastery of perspective of angular and rounded objects, material representation of various objects. Detailed instructions will be sent to applicants after the application deadline.

In-person Professional Interview

It focuses on the general overview, ambition and motivation of the applicant, linked to his/her previous study and/or interest activities related to the Landscape and Garden Architecture degree programme. Submission of a portfolio of the applicant's work is optional but welcome.
