Degree Program: Early Childhood and Elementary Education

Professional and scientific profile and employment of doctoral graduates

The graduate of doctoral studies is qualified to carry out independent, conceptual and creative scientific research, project and development activities in the field of pre-school and elementary pedagogy. He/she understands the broader philosophical, socio-cultural, pedagogical-psychological contexts and theoretical-conceptual bases for designing educational models and their implementation in the socialization and pedagogical processes of children/pupils in the individual areas of the curriculum of pre-primary and primary education, including the specifics of the disciplinary didactics of the individual areas of the child's personality development (language, mathematics, early science and social science education, art and physical culture). The graduate is able to formulate strategies and actively participate in the further education of teachers and pedagogical staff in the field. He/she can hold a position as a specialist in a pedagogical-methodological workplace in the field of pre-primary education and primary education or in the field of pedagogical and educational counselling.

The graduate's profile is characterized by knowledge and skills that enable his/her independent creative scientific work, relying on knowledge based on the current state of scientific knowledge in the field. In the theoretical field, the doctoral student will acquire, among other things, the methodology of scientific work in the field, he/she will be able to orient himself/herself in the broader philosophical and social-scientific context of the field, he/she will be familiar with the psychological context of the processes of education and child development, and with the newer concepts of learning. Knows the didactic concepts of teaching particular areas of the curriculum in pre-primary and primary education. The student will broaden his/her knowledge and abilities to perceive and apply inclusive pedagogy professionally and in practice. In the area of practical skills, the graduate will know and understand the theories of preschool and elementary pedagogy and their application in practice. He/she will master scientific language and scientific text production, acquire the skills to conduct scientific research in the field, independently compile a scientific project, master the principles of presenting research results, continuously present the theoretical and empirical results of the dissertation project, etc. The graduate of the doctoral study programme is able to apply innovative approaches in practice and thus contribute to the development of the respective field of study.

Study Programme: Didactics of Music

Professional and scientific profile and employment of doctoral graduates

Graduates are qualified to perform highly qualified profession: teacher of didactics with a focus on didactics of music education at faculties that prepare teachers for secondary schools or for ISCED level 2, research and methodological worker in didactics of music education for departmental research and development and methodological departments, conceptual programme worker of the state administration in education and enlightenment - professional work with ISCED level 7 education. They are proficient in the history and perspectives of the field and its current concepts, principles and theories and can systematically analyze model disciplinary-didactic problems and propose solutions. They can also professionally lead methodological centres for the teaching of music education. They can professionally inspect schools for music education. They may lead team work in the preparation of curricula, methodological manuals and school textbooks for music education.

Social Work in Public Administration and Social Services

Counselling and Social Communication

The graduate of the doctoral program in Social Work will gain knowledge of social work and social science methodology, understanding and mastering essential facts, concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to scientific research, scientific text, and social practice. Understand the application of social work to public administration and social services.

The student will be able to carry out independent organizational activities in dealing with social problems. He/she will be able to prepare a team for teamwork and cooperation with professionals of other related fields and to establish cooperative contacts with foreign social entities. By acquiring comprehensive knowledge of social problems based on the use of the latest literature, using theories and methods of social work applicable at the level of managerial and conceptual social workers, he/she will be equipped with the skills of active participation in the solution of practical, conceptual, methodological and scientific tasks. The student will be familiar with the theoretical and conceptual background of scientific practices as well as their application. He/she will be able to work in the further education of social workers in public administration and social services. Furthermore, the doctoral graduate will be able to take a critical scientific standpoint on issues and definitions that are closely related to his/her field of scientific interest. Graduates of the doctoral program will find employment as highly professional social workers, social counselors, and communication specialists in state and local government, in the non-profit and private sectors, as social researchers and analysts in institutions dealing with social issues at the local and national levels, and in collaboration with international institutions. Graduates will also be employed in independent research and implementation of social programmes and concepts of social regulation at local, national and European level. At the same time as focusing on the specialisation of the programme, graduates of the individual programmes will additionally master the following areas:

In the Social Work programme, the graduate of the doctoral programme will be an expert in:

  • Creating models of practical social work practice;
  • Initiating, promoting and implementing national social policy and social change in teams with other experts;
  • Managing social work as practice and research.

In the Social Work in Public Administration and Social Services doctoral program, the doctoral graduate will be an expert in:

  • Independent scholarly investigation of relationships in public administration and the engagement and defense of research findings with their application to practice;
  • Creative use of relevant knowledge to identify, analyse and solve public administration problems;
  • Using an interdisciplinary approach in social services.

In the Counseling and Social Communication degree program, the doctoral graduate will master the area of :

  • Specialized social counseling;
  • Social communication in a variety of expert settings;
  • Creation of conceptual materials and methodological guidelines in the field of social counselling;
  • Creation of communication models and communication strategies;

The subjects of the above doctoral programmes are oriented to the problems of the discipline of social work. The supporting topics of the core knowledge are part of the content of the compulsory courses. Another part of the study programmes is covered by professional disciplines in relation to social policy and social work, counselling, social communication, public administration and social services, due to their specification. The title, focus and content of the individual courses are described in detail in the information sheets. The content of the units of the programmes of study corresponds to the current state of knowledge, reflecting the latest trends in their development.

Conditions of admission

Conditions for admission:
- full university education of the second degree,
- graduation from the same or related master's study programme (definition of related fields of study: (https://www.portalvs.sk/sk/studijne-odbory/zobrazit/ucitelstvo-a-pedagogicke-vedy#details-contents, https://www.portalvs.en/en/studijne-odbory/zobrazit/socialna-praca), in relation to the chosen field of study/programme
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty,
- active participation in the admission interview,
- successful completion of an entrance examination focused on professional communication, verification of skills, study competences and knowledge in the field of study,
- defending a dissertation project proposal that includes: Justification for the choice of topic, objective, methods and expected outcomes.

The content of the admission interview consists of the determination of the applicant's prerequisites for independent scientific work in the field of social work, which will be demonstrated by an adequately prepared dissertation project proposal in the following structure:
- Justification of the choice of the research topic
- Current state of research reality in the given topic
- Proposals of the basic objectives of the dissertation
- Proposal of the research methodology of the dissertation
- Expected outcomes of the dissertation applicable in within the discipline of social work
The aim of the dissertation project proposal is to demonstrate the candidate's general study competencies and orientation in the field of study Social Work
The admission procedure will include an oral examination in a world language, the applicant should demonstrate the ability to communicate in that language.
Other possible prerequisites that may be taken into account for a candidate for doctoral studies in the study programme Social Work are: publication activity, teaching practice, participation in a national or international project, study stays abroad, placement in faculty and national competitions of the SSCP, commendation of the Rector and/or commendation of the Dean for the diploma thesis or excellent results during the studies, successful participation in competitions related to the relevant study programme.
Admission interviews will be held from 27.06.2022 to 01.07.2022.
The ranking of applicants will be based on the following rules:
If a greater number of applicants meet the conditions of admission to the study of a given study programme, those applicants who demonstrate the highest level of aptitude for the study according to the conditions of admission to the study will be admitted.

General information on the admission exam

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS:
In case an applicant applies for more than one study programme, he/she must apply for each programme separately.
The application form must be accompanied by:
- a handwritten and signed curriculum vitae, in which the applicant provides information on previous employment or current employment, on the education achieved, including merits, and on the results in the interest activity related to the study programme for which the applicant is applying,
- an affidavit of citizenship,
- a certified copy of a university diploma II. degree,
- a certified copy of the state examination certificate of II. degree,
- a certified copy of the supplement to the university diploma II.
- a statement of the applicant's choice of a foreign language - model in the appendix
- evidence of language examinations passed (if the applicant has passed them)
- in the case of applicants who have obtained their second degree abroad, a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for academic purposes,
- a draft of the dissertation project, which includes: justification of the choice of the topic, the aim, methods, a brief description of the state of research on the topic and the basic research questions,
- a list of published articles or a list of the results of other professional or artistic activities, or reviews of these works and activities,
- proof of payment of the fee, which must be pasted on the 3. page of the application form. Without proof of payment, the application will not be registered. The application fee is non-refundable!
Confirmation of the registration of the application and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants in writing.
Applicants who require specific conditions for health reasons shall inform the faculty in writing when submitting the application.
Applicants who have completed the II.
- a decision on recognition of a document of education for academic purposes issued by a foreign university (more information on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic: https://www.minedu.The applicant from abroad or the applicant who has completed the second stage of higher education studies at a foreign higher education institution shall submit a decision on the recognition of a document of education for academic purposes within the meaning of Section 106 of Act 131/2002 Coll., on the recognition of documents of education for academic purposes. This document is a basic condition for admission to university studies pursuant to Section 56(3) and the applicant shall submit it together with the application form and other required documents for the admission procedure.
