Nursing
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Prešov is an institution whose main task is to educate students in accredited non-medical study programmes at the level of contemporary knowledge, scientific and research results. Characteristics of the field of study.
Nursing is a field of study from the system of fields of study administered by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, as a field of knowledge (§ 50 (1) of Act No. 131/2002), in which the graduate of the study programme (§ 51 (1) of Act No. 131/2002) acquires the professional competence/competence to perform his/her original profession or prepares to pursue further university studies.
Sister - Bachelor (I. independently provides individual nursing care -preventive, supportive, curative, rehabilitative or auxiliary- to individuals, families and groups by the method of the nursing process, maintains and promotes the optimal health status of individuals, families, groups and communities in various situations requiring nursing care, obtains the active participation of individuals, families, groups, and communities in the process of health maintenance and promotion, treatment, and care; monitors the need for nursing care, including education of individuals, families, and groups, and in collaboration with each other, ensures its maximum quality in accordance with ethical principles, patients' rights, with emphasis on maximum quality and performance. She is able to think critically and work with credible research findings.

Graduate's knowledge:
Theoretical knowledge of the graduate of the state program NURSING ( 1st degree):
- theoretical knowledge and practical use of professional nursing terminology
- acquires and understands essential facts, concepts, principles and theories related to nursing
- is theoretically proficient in and practices the nursing process method
- knows how to integrate knowledge from nursing theories and models and apply it to nursing practice
- can think independently, respond promptly
- acts quickly, prudently and decisively, knows legal responsibilities in the context of the profession continuously acquires professional knowledge related to his/her own expertise and takes care of his/her personal growth
- is able to make changes, take risks, assume responsibility, and demonstrate the ability to improvise in necessary situations

- applies knowledge of management, social and behavioral disciplines, which he/she presents in patient/client encounters
Practical Skills and Abilities (Level 1):
The nursing graduate (Level 1) will acquire the ability to:
- perform nursing activities in primary, secondary and follow-up care
- apply nursing models in practice
- work with nursing documentation
- create and formulate standards of nursing care
- monitor nursing problems and provide individualized nursing care using the nursing process method in collaboration with the client, family, and support and/or significant others
- communicate within the healthcare team in collaboration with the client (individual, group, community)
- introduce new technologies and practices into clinical practice within nursing
- analyze problems and make decisions in collaboration with the client to optimize the client's health status
- provide skilled first aid for injuries and life-threatening conditions, mass casualties and those affected by weapons of mass destruction
- use computer and information technology.
Additional knowledge, skills and competences (level 1):
A nursing graduate (level 1) can:
- collaborate and coordinate work in a team
- organise their own learning and continue their own professional development
- keep in touch with developments in their field
- participate in ethical decision-making and apply ethical principles in nursing practice
- use knowledge of psychology and pedagogy in the education of clients and in the training of new members of the nursing team
Additional knowledge, skills and abilities of the graduate:
The nursing graduate (level 1) knows:
- possess basic and specific information and knowledge of the social and behavioral sciences as they relate to nursing
- educate patients in the promotion, protection and restoration of health,
- know foreign languages
- master effective communication and professional behaviour and conduct
- provide qualified first aid for injuries, health and life-threatening conditions, mass casualties and exposure to weapons of mass destruction
- think and act consistently in a preventive manner on health matters
- to master nursing management
- work with information technology, in professional activities
- adhere to a deeply moral, ethical and humane approach to people, especially the sick, physically, mentally and mentally handicapped
- apply empathy, love and respect for people, the ability to understand their problems, to provide comfort and emotional support, to respect their personality
- to think independently, to react promptly, to act purposefully, deliberately and decisively
- apply and use acquired knowledge and skills in professional practice
- make changes, take risks and take responsibility
- independently, creatively and conceptually solve professional tasks, work creatively in a team and manage a nursing team
- communicate at a professional level
- shape one's own personality and continuously educate oneself, acquire information, work with it and transform it creatively,
- shape and educate others, know how to motivate and win them for active cooperation in strengthening health
- to contribute to the development of their field by studying the literature and developing it in a creative way, to participate in solving research problems in nursing.

2. no entrance exam - admission is determined by the average of academic results during studies - applicants shall provide school-confirmed end-of-year report cards for grades 1-3 and mid-year report cards for grade 4 or grade 5 of secondary school with the application form. If the school does not certify the benefit, applicants shall submit officially certified school reports.
Criterion No.2 does not apply to foreign students, they must pass the admission procedure, namely pa written test in human biology within the scope of the gymnasium curriculum (in the Slovak language) (min. pass rate 60 %).
3. the successful result of the SCIO test of the General Studies Prerequisites (GSP) in the National Comparative Examinations (NPS), provided by Scio, will be counted as a study average during the studies of 1.0

1.2Information for applicants to the Bachelor's degree
The application form must include the following:
1/ Application(form):
paper application form (admission fee 35 EUR) applicants shall purchase the university application form designed for undergraduate studies at the form shops (e.g. ŠEVT), thoroughly fill in all its parts, attach other required documents and send it to the address of the Faculty of Health Professions of PU

electronic application form (admission fee 30 EUR) applicants fill in and submit the electronic application form on the website of the University Portal: https://prihlaskavs.sk/sk/ or on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic: https://www.minedu.sk/prihlaska-na-studium-vypis-z-danoveho-priznania-a-ine-formulare/ Then it is necessary to print out the submitted electronic application form, attach to it all other required documents and send it by post to the address of the Faculty of Health Professions of the PU.
Without receipt of the printed e-application form along with other requisites, the e-application form is invalid and the candidate will not be included in the admission process!
2/ Evidence of merit:
Applicants applying for the Day Form of study must complete and provide evidence of high school grades for each year. The application form must list the end-of-year report card grades 1-3 and the half-year grade 4 or grade 5 benefit. This benefit must be confirmed by the high school on page 3. If the secondary school does not certify the benefit, the applicant shall submit notarised report cards for each year with the application form.
After the matriculation examination, applicants shall deliver the notarized matriculation certificate to the faculty address as soon as possible, at the latest on the day of the entrance examination!
Applicants applying for external form of study do not have to fill in or prove the high school grades for each year. As proof of completion of secondary education, they shall submit only an officially certified matriculation certificate
with their application form.
3/ Other application documents (included in the application form):
- Proof of payment of admission fee
- recommendation of a general practitioner for studying in the given field
- structured CV
- proof of Slovak language proficiency- B1 level - to be provided by foreign applicants (except applicants from the Czech Republic) (see chap. 1.4)
- the application form must be handwritten signed by the applicant (page 3).
4/ In case the applicant wishes to apply for more than one study programme at the faculty, he/she must submit a separate application for each study programme separately and pay the application fee for each application separately.
5/ Only those candidates who submit a duly completed application form, attach all the required enclosures, pay the admission fee and meet the required criteria within the stipulated deadline ( 31 March 2025) will be invited for the entrance examination. An alternative date for the entrance examination may only be requested in writing in the event of a serious medical reason, no later than 24 hours after the date of the entrance examination (the application must be accompanied by a relevant medical report of the medical problem, not a certificate of treatment). The faculty does not grant a make-up date in the event of a failed entrance examination.
6/ Administrative fee for the admission process, will not be refunded to applicants in the following cases:
a) incomplete application (after being requested to complete the required documents )
b) if the applicant does not meet the required criteria and has applied for the course anyway
c) if the applicant applies for a study programme which the faculty does not plan to implement in the given academic year
d) if he/she does not enrol for the study
If the student/applicant makes an erroneous payment, he/she will be charged a fee for the erroneous payment in accordance with the current PU Presov price list for the academic year in which he/she applied and the remaining funds will be refunded to the sender's bank account.
7/ ALL THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED ARE REQUIRED AND AN APPLICATION WITHOUT THEM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
SCIO test of General Studies Aptitude Test (GSAT) in the National Comparative Examinations (NCE) conducted by Scio on six dates (before the date of admission to the college) during the academic year 2024/2025 and in several cities in the country. It is possible to take the NPS test more than once; only the best result will be counted. (the minimum pass mark is the 50th percentile).
!!! If a student succeeds in the SCIO test, i.e. achieves a percentile of 50 or more, he/she no longer takes the written test at the faculty, but the faculty counts it in full in the admissions process.
!!! If a student fails the SCIO test, he/she has the option to take the written test at the faculty on the given date of admission, and the faculty will not take the SCIO test result into account. Testing dates, sample tests, and application requirements are posted at http://www.scio.sk/nps/. It is the responsibility of each applicant to apply for the VLE test and to pay the associated costs. The faculty does not organize these tests and does not register or invite candidates for the tests. A candidate who duly registers for the test will receive an invitation to take the test approximately 10 days before the test by email from Scio. The candidate does not hand in his/her result to the faculty. Candidates' results are handed over to the faculty exclusively by Scio. However, each candidate must provide Scio with his/her consent to submit his/her results (he/she will do so as part of the application form for the VET exam)

SCIO tests are optional and are not a condition for admission, the applicant does not have to take them !!!
Conditions for international students
Foreign students must pass the admission procedure, namely a natural test in human biology within the scope of the gymnasium curriculum (in Slovak language).
In addition to the application form, foreign students must also provide proof of recognition of completed education. The decision on recognition of education from a foreign secondary school will be issued by the Regional Education Office in the Slovak Republic.
The following documents shall be submitted with the application: certificate of medical fitness, curriculum vitae, high school diploma, curriculum vitae and proof of payment of the admission fee.
Study in study programmes at the 1st and 2nd level of higher education and in full-time and part-time form, which is carried out in the Slovak language, requires knowledge of the Slovak language at least at the B1 level. We recommend that applicants from abroad (except applicants from the Czech Republic) verify and prove their mastery of the Slovak language by a Slovak language matriculation examination, an ECL (European Consortium for the Certificate of Attaiment in Modern Languages) certificate of Slovak language proficiency at B1 level, a certificate of Slovak language proficiency at B1 level issued by a language school included in the network of schools and school facilities of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic (the list is available at: https://www.cvtisr.sk/buxus/docs//JH/stat_zus.pdf ). Proficiency in the Slovak language is verified in written tests for foreign applicants.
Slovak language proficiency at B1 level:
a) in the field of comprehension:
- the candidate understands the main ideas expressed in written language on common topics encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. Understands the meaning of many radio and TV programmes on current affairs or topics related to areas of personal or professional interest if they are spoken relatively slowly and clearly
- Understands texts which contain everyday vocabulary or which relate to work or study. Can understand descriptions of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters
b) in the area of communication:
- Demonstrates ability to cope with most situations that may arise when travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can engage unprepared in conversation about topics that he/she knows, is interested in or that relate to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current affairs)
- knows how to string phrases together in a simple way to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and goals. He/she can give concise reasons and explanations for his/her views and plans. Can tell a story or relate the content of a book or film and describe his/her reactions.
c)in the area of written expression:
- knows how to write simple coherent sentences on topics that he/she knows well or that
are of personal interest to him/her. He/she can write private letters describing experiences and impressions.
