Solvent Profile:
Grade 2 has a broad theoretical knowledge of the various translation and interpreting disciplines, and is proficient in the comparison of linguistic, cultural and social systems. He/she can communicate adequately in all linguistic styles, i.e. artistic, professional, journalistic, advertising, whether in written or oral form. Proficient in all methods, skills, habits and strategies of professional and artistic translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. He has achieved a high degree of linguistic competence in both his mother tongue and French, as well as translation and interpreting competence. He has mastered aspects of translation in the fields of law, economics, etc., as well as the practicalities of translation and interpreting. He is able to creatively and at a high level apply all the acquired knowledge and skills (notation technique in consecutive interpreting, anticipation of the text in simultaneous interpreting, orientation in computer-assisted translation, etc.) in the implementation of a specific translation and interpreting process and to use them in the selection of various options and procedures depending on the nature of the text to be translated/interpreted. The student is able to further develop his/her abilities and skills and to adapt to the problems that arise in specific translation and interpreting practice. He/she continuously improves his/her linguistic culture, develops flexibility and speed of expression.
A Level 2 graduate can be employed as a translator and interpreter who is proficient in all translation and interpreting techniques and procedures. He/she is able to translate texts from and into French, especially professional, content-oriented texts in the field of law, economics with a specific focus: French texts on European and French institutions, Slovak texts on Slovak institutions - Council of Europe, European Parliament, European Commission, political organisation of the state, state and human rights, presidential/parliamentary political system, elections (presidential, parliamentary, municipal, senate elections), territorial division of the FR; French and Slovak texts on the socio-economic sphere - the country's economy, industry, agriculture, tourism, basic knowledge of French and Slovak enterprises and commercial companies, the social security system (types of insurance companies), taxes, as well as French and Slovak texts on the legal sphere - the basics of the organisation of the judiciary in France and Slovakia, the Court of Justice of the European Communities, the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Auditors. He has very good ICT skills and is proficient in translation software. He is able to perform two-way interpretation from a letter, guided interpretation, consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Proficient in interpreter diplomacy. Proficient in technology He/she is familiar with the issues of professional translation and artistic translation, is able to implement theoretical training into practice, reflects on translation problems and continuously develops his/her thinking about translation.

The basic condition for admission to study according to master's study programmes (second degree of higher education within the meaning of Section 53 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education) is the completion of the first degree study programme.
2)
A candidate may be admitted to a master's study programme without an entrance examination if the master's study programme is a continuation of a bachelor's study programme in the given field of study and the candidate has passed the state examination in subjects equivalent to the subjects of the state examination of the corresponding bachelor's study programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov.
Additional information
a) A candidate may submit multiple applications for studies at the Faculty of Arts PU, indicating one study programme on one application form;
b) Applicants shall pay the fee by bank transfer or postal money order U, the proof of payment shall be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form;
c) Applications without proof of fee payment will not be accepted;
d) Basic data required to make a cross-border transfer from abroad via SWIFT network: swift address of the bank: SPSRSKBA, account number of the payee or account number of the SP client in the format SK87 8180 0000 0070 0007 8205; name of the bank: State Treasury, ul. e) Candidates studying at the Faculty of Arts PU or graduates of bachelor studies at the Faculty of Arts PU do not fill in the statement of results of bachelor studies in individual semesters and do not submit a confirmation of the correctness of the data. A structured curriculum vitae shall be attached to the application form;
f) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall fill in the first and second pages of the application form thoroughly;
g) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor's studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall submit a structured curriculum vitae and certified photocopies of documents certifying completion of studies (university diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement) with their application form. Officially uncertified photocopies will not be accepted;
h) Applicants who are completing their bachelor studies at a faculty other than the PU Faculty of Arts in 2025 shall attach to the application form a statement of the results of bachelor studies in individual semesters issued by the study department of the university (stamp and signature of the study department of the school/faculty);
i) Applicants for studies with specific needs: 1. Before applying for studies, they shall contact the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator in order to be advised on the choice of the field of study and the scope of support services at PU; 2. provide the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator with sufficient information about their limitations and needs, 3. contact the faculty coordinator well in advance (usually 1 month before the entrance examination) to ensure adequate conditions for the entrance examination. j) Candidates shall submit a medical certificate of medical fitness as part of the application form, which is available on the faculty's website;
k) The application for studies may also be submitted by an applicant who has not yet passed the Bachelor's State Examination for the type of study and cannot provide relevant data on the passing of the examination in the application form. Such an applicant shall submit proof of having passed this examination subsequently, at the latest by the deadline set by the faculty. If the applicant fails to submit this document, he/she may not be admitted to the study;
l) In the event that fewer candidates apply for a study programme than the minimum number set for that study programme, the dean may decide not to open the programme for a given academic year. The dean shall notify the applicants of this fact and invite them to change their study programme. If the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will refund the full admission fee;
m) The Faculty of Arts follows the internal regulation Principles of the Admission Procedure of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov, which was issued by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov on 16 September 2009.

- English language and culture combined: translation from English, translation from Slovak, theory and history of translation and interpretation;
- French language and culture combined:
- translation from French, translation into French, theory and history of artistic translation, theory of interpretation;
- German language and culture in combination: morphology of the German language, syntax of the German language, culture of the countries of the German linguistic area, theory and history of artistic translation, theory of interpretation.
- Russian language and culture in combination: Russian language, Russian literature, history and culture of Russia, theory and history of translation, theory of interpretation;
- Ukrainian language and culture in combination: Ukrainian language and culture: Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, history and culture of Ukraine, theory and history of artistic translation, theory of interpretation.
