Digitalization of Metallurgical Processes
The study focuses on industrial processes in metallurgy and the implementation of digital technologies and skills in metallurgical processes, with an emphasis on two main areas that often overlap: advanced tools for optimizing the production chain and specific technologies for achieving low-carbon and sustainable production in order to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of industrial plants, reduce the amount of emissions produced and increase the level of proficiency. The core part of the study is to acquire theoretical knowledge and digital skills, personal and interpersonal skills (soft-skills), to gain an overview of the possibilities of using and applying a software portfolio for sustainable and competitive industrial production, modelling and simulation of processes. The study programme focuses on digital and long-term sustainable transformation in industry. Graduates will gain an overview of various manufacturing technologies including metallurgy, the latest technologies available for metal production, opportunities for reducing the carbon footprint of industry and sustainable business practices. The graduate will acquire organisational and presentation skills. The aim of this programme is to prepare future professionals who can independently address the challenges and tasks facing the industry with an emphasis on the environment and technological advancement.
Prospects of graduates
The graduate has a basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, metallurgical processes, thermo-chemical processes and energy science, has basic methods and means of organisation and management, with knowledge of current sustainable development goals and environmental, social and marketing management, and has analytical and digital skills. They have an overview of modelling and simulation methods for industrial processes, and are familiar with alternative energy sources, electrification options and fuel combustion technologies. The graduate understands the technical, economic, ecological, managerial and legislative disciplines within the needs of the discipline; understands the interrelationships, and is familiar with the necessary theories, concepts and methods of the discipline to enable data to be collected and problem analysis to be carried out for the performance of lower level technical and managerial functions; understands the possibilities, conditions and limitations of the use of theories, concepts and methods in technical practice; can independently carry out a less demanding research project, find, sort and present information relevant to the solution of the assigned task, and, where appropriate, propose simple and innovative procedures. Applies knowledge of process digitisation, decarbonisation and sustainable industry, data analytics and information technology to a process according to a current industry need.
The graduate is able to communicate effectively with management and technicians/engineers in the operation of production, is able to apply digital skills to the production process and implement individual analytical-digital skills to smaller technological-process units; understands the essence of environmental, social and corporate management and the goals of a sustainable enterprise; has a basic understanding of experimental methodology, laboratory work, analytical procedures, the accuracy and processing of laboratory measurement results and operational data and their software evaluation; as well as management systems and logistics; is able to apply and apply knowledge to handle various tasks and problem solving in the field of optimization and digitalization of technical processes; is prepared to hold a lower management position as a technologist; to work in the field of management and quality control, as well as in the business and public sector. He is ready for team work and can communicate in a foreign language. He/she is solution oriented and can defend a problem solving approach.

The basic requirement for admission is to submit an application in which the applicant states the study program and form of study.
In addition to meeting the above-mentioned general admission requirements and specific admission requirements, foreign applicants applying for studies in the Slovak language must also demonstrate basic knowledge of the Slovak language for understanding, speaking, reading and writing at least as a basic user of the language at level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
- the applicant can understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple phrases related to immediate needs,
- can introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details, e.g. where they live, people they know or things they own,
- can communicate in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly and the vocabulary is around 500 words.
Knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 can be demonstrated in the admission procedure in one of the following three ways:
- By passing the Slovak or Czech language school leaving exam (proven by submitting a school leaving certificate - uploading a copy to the electronic application system),
- By submitting a certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 issued by a Slovak language school that is registered in the network of schools and school facilities of the Slovak Republic (uploading a copy to the electronic application system), or by submitting a confirmation of completion of language training issued by a university in the Slovak Republic that organizes or conducts language or vocational training for studies at a university, or
- By completing a free online Slovak language course (not mandatory) and successfully passing the final free online exam (not conditional on completing the online course) within the online course organized by the Technical University of Košice. The applicant will be able to use this third method only after submitting the application and if he/she does not attach a high school diploma or certificate to the application according to the first two methods - in such a case, the applicant will be sent the login details for the online course to his/her unique private email address automatically. Unique login details for the online course will be sent to one email address only once! Therefore, it is necessary that the application contains a unique private email address that only the applicant has access to! The applicant will have access to an online course lasting 180 hours. The online course will start on 15.2.2026 and will end on 25.8.2026. The applicant will be able to take the online exam (final test) from 15.3.2026 to 31.5.2026, and for a successful evaluation he/she will have to obtain at least 51% of the possible 100%. The applicant will have only two attempts to pass the final online test. After successfully passing the online test, the applicant will be sent a confirmation, which the applicant will then attach to the application form (by uploading it to the electronic application system).
If a foreign applicant for a bachelor's degree program conducted in the Slovak language does not demonstrate basic knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 (results from the online test min. 51%) no later than the date designated for enrollment, he/she will not be admitted to the study.
