Chemical Processes in Raw Materials Processing and Materials Production
The study program Chemical processes in raw materials processing and the materials production is aimed at the professional training of technologists in the field of processing non-ore raw materials and the production of non-metallic (especially ceramic) materials using chemical and high-temperature processes. It is an interdisciplinary study on a chemical basis, which builds students' natural science, technology (including IT) and engineering foundation for the following areas:
- chemical processing of non-ore mineral raw materials, especially secondary ones;
- production of non-metallic materials with functional properties, especially advanced and industrial ceramics;
- development of materials for hydrogen storage and galvanic cells;
- industrial and environmental applications of ceramic materials;
- complex processing of mineral raw materials, including secondary sources;
- related environmental technologies;
- efficient use of energy from carbon-neutral and carbon-free sources within the department.
The study includes mathematical modelling and simulation of processes, mainly technological operations, regulation/control and automation, analytical and measurement techniques, linguistic, economic, managerial and basics of legal literacy, as well as soft skills/competences. Graduates of the study program will gain awareness of the need to build a sustainable industry based on environmentally acceptable technologies and a circular economy, and thanks to the acquired knowledge and skills, will be able to actively contribute to fulfilling this need.
Prospects of graduates
The aim of the study program Chemical processes in raw materials processing and the materials production is to prepare graduates - university-educated experts who:
- acquired professional knowledge, skills and competences that are widely applicable within the field, especially in the field of processing non-ore raw materials and production of non-metallic (especially ceramic materials) materials using chemical and high-temperature processes.
- master the general theoretical foundations of technological processes within the field, understand and actively use the acquired fundamental laws, relationships (including analogy) and facts - thanks to this, they are flexible and easily understand the specific production processes of future employers;
- master modern IT tools to the extent necessary for planning, operating and managing simple technological processes and equipment within the department.
Graduates of the Bachelor study program Chemical processes in raw materials processing and the materials production:
- demonstrated that by studying the subjects of the study program with understanding, they acquired knowledge that follows on from their secondary education and expands it with a general technological overview and capabilities within the field, in particular the use of chemical and physical methods and high-temperature processes in the processing of raw materials and the design of different inorganic materials, such as also technological procedures and methods of complex processing of materials used in the field;
- they know how to apply their knowledge and acquired skills in a way that indicates a competent professional approach to work, which they demonstrated during their studies by independently solving problem-based tasks (from tasks solved in individual subjects to the preparation and defence of the final thesis);
- they use a scientific approach, are able to independently obtain and interpret the data necessary for solving tasks in the field of study, and make ethically and socially responsible decisions (based on the principles of humanism);
- they know how to communicate familiar information, concepts (principles), problems and solutions to professional and lay audiences;
- have knowledge that is a starting point for further study at the level of the current state of knowledge and expected development in the field of study, as well as the skills necessary to continue further study with a high degree of independence.
A graduate of the study program with his first-level university education is applicable in practice, but also capable of continuing his studies in the second-level study program. degree with a material-technological focus.

The basic requirement for admission is to submit an application in which the applicant states the study program and form of study.
In addition to meeting the above-mentioned general admission requirements and specific admission requirements, foreign applicants applying for studies in the Slovak language must also demonstrate basic knowledge of the Slovak language for understanding, speaking, reading and writing at least as a basic user of the language at level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
- the applicant can understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple phrases related to immediate needs,
- can introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details, e.g. where they live, people they know or things they own,
- can communicate in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly and the vocabulary is around 500 words.
Knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 can be demonstrated in the admission procedure in one of the following three ways:
- By passing the Slovak or Czech language school leaving exam (proven by submitting a school leaving certificate - uploading a copy to the electronic application system),
- By submitting a certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 issued by a Slovak language school that is registered in the network of schools and school facilities of the Slovak Republic (uploading a copy to the electronic application system), or by submitting a confirmation of completion of language training issued by a university in the Slovak Republic that organizes or conducts language or vocational training for studies at a university, or
- By completing a free online Slovak language course (not mandatory) and successfully passing the final free online exam (not conditional on completing the online course) within the online course organized by the Technical University of Košice. The applicant will be able to use this third method only after submitting the application and if he/she does not attach a high school diploma or certificate to the application according to the first two methods - in such a case, the applicant will be sent the login details for the online course to his/her unique private email address automatically. Unique login details for the online course will be sent to one email address only once! Therefore, it is necessary that the application contains a unique private email address that only the applicant has access to! The applicant will have access to an online course lasting 180 hours. The online course will start on 15.2.2026 and will end on 25.8.2026. The applicant will be able to take the online exam (final test) from 15.3.2026 to 31.5.2026, and for a successful evaluation he/she will have to obtain at least 51% of the possible 100%. The applicant will have only two attempts to pass the final online test. After successfully passing the online test, the applicant will be sent a confirmation, which the applicant will then attach to the application form (by uploading it to the electronic application system).
If a foreign applicant for a bachelor's degree program conducted in the Slovak language does not demonstrate basic knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A1 (results from the online test min. 51%) no later than the date designated for enrollment, he/she will not be admitted to the study.
