Archival studies

Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the study field of Archival Studies (2nd degree) are able to work mainly as managers in archives in solving scientific and practical tasks of archives and auxiliary historical sciences, in scientific, museum, educational and similar institutions, in mass media, etc. As professional workers, they can create new archival collections from disorganised registers taken over to the archives, reconstruct poorly arranged or otherwise damaged older archival collections. They can create higher-level archival aids (systematic catalogues, computer databases, etc.), make special outputs from them, and provide informed advice to historians and other research users of the relevant archival holdings.

The graduates of the study field of Archival Studies (2nd degree) have in-depth knowledge of archival theory and practice, master and refine archival terminology, and can contribute to the improvement of archival legislation with their recommendations. By researching archival collections as the subject of their scientific interest, they enrich archival science (archival science), the history of administration, but also some auxiliary historical sciences (mainly diplomacy, metrology, numismatics, faleristics or historical geography) with new theoretical knowledge, they also enrich the knowledge of local, regional and national history of Slovakia.
