Aerospace Systems (letecké a kozmické systémy)

The study program is focused on the development of skills associated with the research of progressive technologies and algorithms, the use of a wide range of software tools for analysis, simulation and modeling of all aspects of aerospace systems. The program is oriented towards the development of abilities, competences and digital skills necessary to master the issues of research and development of avionics systems, propulsion units, structural elements, materials, design as well as the operation of aircraft and space vehicles. For this, the student has the opportunity to choose his study path with theoretical basis subjects and specialization subjects. The graduate of the study program is able to abstract scientific problems while studying foreign professional literature, is ready to form hypotheses, trends and concepts of development in technically and computer-supported aviation and space constructions and technologies. In addition, he is able to generalize this knowledge and transfer it to other areas of technical practice.
A graduate of the Aerospace Systems study program in the transport field of study is profiled as an independent creative designer and developer of elements, modules, nodes and components of aviation and space technology, as an independent creative worker in the field of software products in aviation, aerospace and in the field of creating new information systems in these areas or as leaders of interdisciplinary research and design collectives. The graduate should be able to work in international research teams, in design, technical and operational research. The graduate masters the scientific methods of research and development in the field, demonstrates the ability and readiness for independent creative and research activity in the given field. The graduate acquires the ability to abstract scientific problems while studying foreign professional literature, is ready to shape trends and concepts of development in technically and computer-supported aerospace constructions and technologies. The goal of education is the development of soft skills of graduates who will be able to clearly communicate scientific problems, formulate research hypotheses as well as have managerial skills for leading interdisciplinary teams. The study program also aims to develop students' creative thinking in the context of exact technical sciences, which leads to the ability to bring innovative ideas and procedures in the field of aviation and space systems as well as other related areas in the field of transport.
A graduate of the third degree of university studies in the field of Aerospace Systems will acquire the following additional knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • able to lead smaller and larger teams of scientific, research and development workers, lead large projects and take responsibility for complex solutions to scientific and research problems,
  • he will be able to follow the latest scientific and research trends in the field of aviation and cosmonautics and supplement and update his knowledge in the field of aviation and space systems in the form of lifelong learning,
  • learns the principles of managerial work, the design of an experiment with a time schedule, the management and control of team workers,
  • able to communicate and cooperate with scientific project managers and specialists from other professions,
  • is able to apply the legal, social, moral, ethical, economic and environmental aspects of his profession in his work.

The graduate will acquire the following practical skills during his studies:
• analyze and develop technologies of aviation and space technology systems in the context of the most modern methods and scientific knowledge,
• competently communicate with the aviation environment, lead broad interdisciplinary teams in the field of research and development of aviation systems,
• independently design and implement progressive hardware and software solutions for the analysis and processing of extensive data sets (e.g. flight data),
• develop design and technical skills in working with selected aviation and space technology,
• be a senior employee of the aviation services and technical security teams of aviation and space assets,

A graduate can:
• lead and manage an interdisciplinary research team in the environment of aerospace engineering,
• independently and creatively solve technical tasks in the application to on-board aircraft and space systems and their propulsion systems,
• behave professionally in all areas of your activity with an emphasis on ethical standards in the area of your work contacts within production and maintenance facilities,
• work as a leading technician and manager in research and development of aviation technology,
• communicate detailed information, advanced concepts and creative approaches to solving research tasks and trends in the field of aerospace technology to professional and lay audiences.

Conditions of admission

General Conditions for Admission to Study

The condition for admission to doctoral studies in the 2026/2027 academic year is completion of a second-level university education and successful completion of the entrance examination.

Applications for doctoral studies, in which the applicant, in addition to the study programme, specifies one of the announced dissertation topics within the relevant study programme together with the name of the supervisor (§ 54(5)–(7)), must be submitted electronically or delivered in person to the Department for Science, Research and Third-Level Studies of the Faculty of Aeronautics, Technical University of Košice (LF TUKE), or sent by post (registered mail).

  • A curriculum vitae.
  • Officially certified copies of documents demonstrating completion of the required higher education degree.
  • A list of published professional and scientific works to date.
  • An outline project related to the dissertation topic.
  • Proof of payment of the admission procedure fee.

The admissions exam consists of a language and a professional (subject-specific)  section. The number of applicants accepted into the full-time program depends on the number of doctoral positions available at the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice (LF TUKE).

Admission decisions are made by the Dean of LF TUKE based on the recommendation and ranking of applicants determined by the Admission Committee in the relevant field of study.

General information on the admission exam

Entrance Examination

Pursuant to Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, § 57(3), the admission procedure for doctoral studies always includes an entrance examination. The entrance examination at the Faculty of Aeronautics, Technical University of Košice (LF TUKE) consists of a language part (English language) and a professional (subject-specific) part. The language part takes place first and consists of a multiple-choice test. The test is divided into two parts: listening comprehension (60% of the questions) and grammar (40% of the questions). The test duration is up to one hour. The entire test covers general vocabulary as well as basic aviation terminology (airport, aircraft, weather, airport safety, etc.).The second part of the entrance examination is conducted orally before an admission committee appointed by the Dean of LF TUKE (approximately 15–20 minutes). During this part, the applicant for third-level (doctoral) studies first briefly introduces themselves (selected parts of their CV), then presents their professional profile in more detail in connection with the chosen dissertation topic, and primarily presents their previously prepared and submitted outline project (a brief professional description of the selected future dissertation topic – maximum one A4 page).

Method of Selection of Applicants for Study

The first part of the admission procedure, i.e. the English language test, is evaluated based on the number of correct answers in the test (one question equals one point; in the final evaluation, the number of points corresponds to the percentage score). The resulting percentage evaluation is recorded in the admission procedure report and has a recommendatory character both for the admission committee—when determining the ranking—and for the Dean of LF TUKE when deciding on the admission or non-admission of applicants to doctoral studies at LF TUKE in individual study programmes.
The final selection of applicants is based primarily on the second part of the admission procedure, i.e. the evaluation of the presentation of the previously prepared outline project for the selected dissertation topic, the applicant’s previous and current professional knowledge, as well as their responses to questions from the members of the admission committee (motivation for applying for a doctoral position, interest in studying at LF TUKE, knowledge of the fundamental principles of doctoral studies at TUKE, etc.).
After the completion of the second part of the admission procedure with all applicants, the admission committee deliberates and determines the ranking for each study programme within the given field of study and form of study. The ranking, signed by all committee members, is then submitted to the Dean of LF TUKE.
