Landscape and Garden Architecture

The graduate is prepared for creative work for mastering the tasks of a garden and landscape architect in regional, settlement and zonal dimensions with the application of elements of greenery and architectural structures. Acquire the prerequisites for the creative reconstruction and restoration of historic landscape structures, elements and objects of garden and park art, as well as the revitalization and restoration of rural landscapes with an emphasis on settlements and biotechnical landscaping. It may also apply for works related to exhibitions, fine art and elements of small-scale architecture as components of biotic vegetation elements in interiors, settlements and landscape space.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate is able to analyze and synthesize the conditions, characteristics and values of the landscape in terms of development, culture, historical structures, aesthetics and architecture, forms of land use and settlement. Acquire the ability to evaluate and assess parks, gardens and other structures of settlement and landscape greenery from the point of view of style-architectural, aesthetic, gene-foundation-plant. The student is able to plan, design and project landscape units, settlements, zones and functional areas in terms of the creation of green spaces for housing, recreation, ecological stability, increasing the aesthetic value and quality of the environment.

Conditions of admission

BASIC CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY

1. The admission procedure to the engineering degree of study at the FZKI SPU in Nitra is carried out in accordance with §55, §56, §57 and §58 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and in accordance with the Study Regulations of the SPU in Nitra and the Statute of the FZKI SPU in Nitra.

2. The basic condition for admission of a student to engineering studies is the completion of a first degree study programme in the same or a related field of study and its successful completion by a state examination.

An applicant who fails to prove fulfilment of the basic condition for admission to the study at the time of verification of fulfilment of the conditions for admission may be admitted to the study conditionally, provided that he/she is obliged to prove fulfilment of the basic conditions for admission to the study no later than on the date set for enrolment in the study.

FURTHER CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY

The ranking of applicants will be based on the evaluation of the results obtained in the previous studies at the first level, including the state examination, with the evaluation criteria being the weighted average of the courses taken throughout the previous studies as follows:

A student may obtain:

- 5 points for a weighted average of ≤2.5 in all subjects taken during the entire previous first cycle of studies,

- 5 points for a weighted average of ≤2.5 in all subjects taken during the entire previous first cycle of studies,

- 5 points for a state examination result ≤2.5.

The minimum number of points required for admission is 5 points.

If the applicant has completed a Bachelor's degree programme in a related field of study at another faculty (or university), he/she is obliged to submit the results of the Bachelor's degree as described above (weighted average of the courses taken throughout the previous first degree studies and the result of the state examination). Upon admission to the engineering study programme, the student will be given a study plan with the aim of completing the courses (within the study plan) to the extent specified by the Dean.

FURTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE STUDY PROGRAMMELAND AND GARDEN ARCHITECTURE

If the applicant has completed the first degree programme in the study programme Landscape and Garden Architecture and is interested in a follow-up study programme, point 1 applies, while an additional condition for admission to the study is the submission and assessment of a portfolio that demonstrates the applicant's prerequisites for successful study of the second degree. The portfolio in printed form is included in the application form. The portfolio of work is to be delivered by the deadline for the submission of the application form to the Study Department of the Faculty of Physical and Chemical Engineering, SPU in Nitra, Tulipánova 7, 949 76 Nitra.;

If the applicant has graduated from the first degree study programme in the study programme Landscape and Garden Architecture and is interested in a non-core study programme, point 1 applies and after admission to the engineering study programme the student will be obliged to complete the profiling subjects of the first degree study (within the study plan) in the scope determined by the dean.

If the applicant has completed a first degree study programme in a study programme related to the landscape and garden architecture programme and is interested in the engineering study programme in the landscape and garden architecture study programme, he/she must pass an entrance talent test, except if it was part of the admission procedure for his/her bachelor's study programme, in which case the applicant shall submit a portfolio of work from the completed bachelor's study programme, and after admission to the engineering study programme he/she shall be obliged to complete the profiling subjects I. degree studies (within the study plan) in the scope determined by the dean.

The content of the admission talent examination will be based on the professional profile of a graduate of the Bachelor's degree of the study programme Landscape and Landscape Architecture, which forms the basis for the engineering study programme Landscape and Landscape Architecture.

GENERAL ADMISSIONS DETAILS

  • An applicant may apply on a single application form for more than one programme of study undertaken at the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering (within one admission fee),
  • part of the application form of an applicant who has completed bachelor studies outside SPU in Nitra is a scan of the document of graduation with a supplement to the diploma, which applicants enter electronically via the University Information System (UIS),
  • certified copy of the document of graduation (notary, registry office)with the diploma supplement, applicants will bring to the registration, otherwise they will not be enrolled in the study,
  • incomplete applications (e.g. without proof of fee payment) will not be accepted,
  • after the admission procedure, the applicant will receive a decision on the result of the admission procedure within 30 days after verification of the fulfilment of the conditions for admission to the study. An applicant who does not meet the conditions at the time of the admissions committee meeting may be conditionally admitted,
  • an applicant who is admitted to study a study programme is obliged to provide information to the faculty whether he/she will enrol in the study according to the instructions he/she will receive in writing together with the admission decision (e-form is included in the decision),
  • the applicant's personal data (name, surname, birth number, address, etc.) will be used in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act No. 18/2018 Coll. only for the purposes of the admission procedure and may not be disclosed for other purposes,
  • the dean may accept the results of the admission procedure at other faculties of SPU in Nitra or other universities,
  • the dean may offer applicants who have not been placed on the waiting list for the applied study programme the possibility of admission to an alternative programme with a lower number of applicants,
  • the faculty reserves the right not to open a study programme to which a low number of applicants applies. In this case, the faculty will offer the applicant another accredited study programme.

Foreign applicants create a clause via the link: https://uznavanie.minedu.sk/recognition-statement/ in the Degree Recognition Clause section.

Foreign applicants (exceptions are applicants from the Czech Republic and applicants who have graduated from the Slovak language) who apply to study a study programme offered at the SPU in Nitra in the Slovak language must compulsorily pass an online test and an online oral interview aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Nitra Language Centre (https://cj.uniag.sk/sk/domov/) on two dates, which applicants will be informed about in advance.

After passing the language test, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of the summary result of the online test and the online interview, which will correspond to the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The test and the certificate are subject to a fee of € 30,-. If the applicant's level of language proficiency is below A1, the applicant will not be admitted to the course.

If the applicant's language proficiency level is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the admission requirements, but will be required to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organised by the Centre of Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: 120,- €). Upon completion of the course, the applicant will be issued a certificate of completion. If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the course.

General information on the admission exam

A condition of admission is the submission of a and assessment of a portfolio that demonstrates the applicant's prerequisites for successful completion of the second degree. The portfolio in printed form is a part of the application form and the applicant shall send it by post to the Study Department of the Faculty of Physical Education and Culture of the SPU in Nitra, Tulipánova 7, 949 01 Nitra, no later than 15 July 2025.



Form of entrance exam

The entrance talent test is conducted by evaluating the submitted portfolio. The ranking of applicants will be based on the quality of the portfolios and the results of the Bachelor's degree and the assessment of the relatedness of the Bachelor's degree programme completed (for graduates of other HEIs).
