Veterinary nurse
Study in the veterinary nurse study programme is aimed at acquiring knowledge in the field of intensive care of pets. The student acquires basic knowledge in the field of pathological changes of dead animals, learns about necrobiotic processes occurring in the body, recognizes acute and chronic inflammation and the possibility of healing by regeneration and repair, has knowledge about the characteristics of tumors, developmental anomalies and immune disorders, is able to interpret pathogenetic mechanisms in the context of disease processes, has knowledge of investigative diagnostic methods, has basic knowledge of parasitic and infectious diseases of companion animals, is proficient in the management of veterinary reception and first contact with patients and clients. The student will master outpatient laboratory techniques, record keeping and management of therapy administration for specific diseases, preventive veterinary health programs for puppies, adult and aging patients, and special needs patients, gain knowledge of care management for handicapped, abandoned, and zoo animals, and have a basic understanding of inpatient care management.

The admission of a candidate to study at UVLF in Košice is conditional on obtaining a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education and successful completion of the entrance examination. The order of applicants will be determined on the basis of the number of points achieved in the written test in biology and the evaluation of active participation in high school Olympiads and SOTS in profile subjects (biology and chemistry) and for other activities, which the student must document in writing to the application form.
Conditions for international students
The admission conditions are the same as for Slovak applicants.
Another condition for foreign applicants to study in Slovak language is knowledge of Slovak language at least at B1 level. Candidates must prove their knowledge of the language by a certificate confirming the level of the language, or complete a Slovak language course organised by a third party for the needs of UVLF in Košice before starting their studies.
