General History
The program concentrates on selected issues in general history and archaeology, with specialization in specific periods and regions. It deepens the theoretical and methodological foundations of these disciplines and directs attention to the study of selected research problems, with an emphasis on philosophical and methodological grounding. Students learn to independently and creatively address complex research questions, as well as to prepare and implement development projects in the fields of history and archaeology within professional memory institutions. Another core aim is to master the full spectrum of interpretative approaches to historical and archaeological sources.
Graduates are thus prepared to work in higher education and academic institutions, both nationally and internationally. Individual dissertation interests are balanced by a shared educational framework, defined primarily through compulsory courses.
More detailed information about the study program is available at the web https://fphil.uniba.sk/en/study/study-programmes/doctoral-studies/general-history/.
The study program is conceived primarily as preparation for researchers in the fields of historical and archaeological scholarship. Graduates are also qualified to serve as conceptual specialists within memory institutions and to undertake teaching activities. Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, graduates are able to apply their expertise both domestically and internationally, particularly in the following professions:
- research and research-pedagogical staff within academic institutions (universities, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, etc.) or specialized memory institutions,
- curator responsible for the processing and accessibility of collection items as evidence of societal development, both within state institutions and in the private sector (e.g. corporate museums, etc.).
