Slovak Literature

The study program is focused on acquiring specialized expertise in the theory and history of Slovak literature and on deepening knowledge of research methods in the field of literary Slovak studies. In terms of content, structure, and profile, it organically builds upon second-cycle (Master’s level) higher education completed in Slovak studies–oriented programs.
The program concentrates on developing highly specialized competences and on expanding knowledge of the principles and core foundations of the discipline in its relational and interpretative complexity, argumentative coherence, and explanatory value, including interactions with related fields of scholarship (linguistics, comparative literature, history, philosophy and the history of philosophical thought, translation studies, etc.). Emphasis is placed on deepening disciplinary and methodological knowledge of the history of Slovak literature in its broader interliterary contexts, literary theory, literary text interpretation, and literary studies methodology, which serve as a foundation for innovation and originality in scholarly practice or research. The program also includes the development of students’ ability to select appropriate objects of scholarly inquiry, choose techniques for data collection, acquisition, verification, and processing, and to manage the diagnosis and projection of research processes.
More detailed information about the study program is available at the web https://fphil.uniba.sk/en/study/study-programmes/doctoral-studies/slovak-literature/.
The study program is primarily conceived as preparation for research professionals in the field of literary Slovak studies. Graduates are also prepared to assume conceptual roles in the sphere of literary culture and to engage in academic teaching. Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, graduates are qualified for professional practice both in Slovakia and abroad, particularly in the following professions:
