Applied Biology

Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Applied Biology have knowledge of biological science disciplines, they also have knowledge of frontier science disciplines and can use biological and chemical methods in solving practical tasks.
Graduates of the study programme will acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge, experience and habits that will enable them to:
 understand the essential facts, principles and theories in biology,
 know the connections between biology and other natural science disciplines,
 be able to orient themselves in natural disciplines,
 have basic knowledge of them and be able to extract, sort, process and use in-depth information from relevant databases,
 use them in solving tasks of basic and applied biological research - be able to interdisciplinary research and learn the nature of natural technical and social processes taking place around us,
 have the ability to make decisions when solving problems and designing measures,
 be able to design and process innovative measures and changes in practice into a documentary form,
 create projects, obtain project coverage and successfully implement them in practice,
 make purposeful use of existing and newly acquired knowledge of others and their own, to creatively search for solutions moving forward the current state of the art in the field of sustainable regional development objectively.
Graduates of the study programme can seek employment in a wide range of workplaces with biological, biomedical and biotechnological focus, in research teams as well as in independent work with research and technical focus (SAV, universities, departments of health, agriculture and forestry, food industry, environment, etc.). They are prepared to meet the requirements of specialized institutions requiring field work, especially at workplaces dedicated to modern biotechnologies (recombinant DNA technologies), as well as at eco-environmentally oriented workplaces, and they will also find employment in institutions of state and local government and in private companies with a research and technology orientation.
After completing the Master's degree, graduates of the study programme can continue their doctoral studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava, within the 3rd degree study programme Molecular Biology, or at other faculties with a similar orientation.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to the study programme of the second degree is the completion of the study programme of the first degree (according to Section 56 (2) of Act No.131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission to the chosen study programme takes into account the fact whether the applicant has completed a study programme at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava or at another university of related specialization.
The admission to the master's study programme evaluates the result of the bachelor's study. In the case of applicants from other faculties and completion of bachelor's studies in related fields, the composition of the courses taken in the first cycle of studies is also evaluated.
In the case of admission to the master's degree programme in applied biology, it is recommended that a student at the bachelor's level of studies should have completed the courses of molecular biology and microbiology.
In the case of completion of bachelor's studies in related fields, the Admissions Committee of the Faculty of Natural Sciences may require that an entrance examination be conducted.

- diploma supplement officially certified (registry office/notary)
- state examination certificate officially certified (registry office/notary)
Applicant, who will take the State Final Examination of the first cycle of higher education in the academic year 2025/2026 and who has not been issued with a diploma at the date of the admission procedure, shall provide a certificate of studies and a certified transcript of completed courses of study.
An applicant who is a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava shall submit uncertified copies of the diploma, diploma supplement and the certificate of the state examination.
An applicant who is a student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the UCM in Trnava and who will take the state final examination of the first degree in the academic year 2025/2026, shall submit the documents of graduation (study department)

Conditions for international students

Admission conditions for foreign students are the same as for applicants from the Slovak Republic. The condition of admission of foreign applicants to the study programme conducted in Slovak language is the knowledge of Slovak language at the level enabling study in Slovak language. Foreign applicants prove their knowledge of the language with a Certificate of Slovak language proficiency at the B2 level.
An applicant who has completed his/her bachelor's studies abroad is obliged to apply for the equivalent of the documents according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic.
