Teacher Training for Primary Education
Education and training at the Faculty of Education of KU are to prepare graduates for responsible roles in education and society. Interdisciplinary efforts and interconnectedness, where philosophical, pedagogical, social, natural sciences, artistic and other disciplines find their home rights, open a new horizon of orientation towards the service of the human being (child, parent, colleague,...).
The conceived field of study is in line with the current trend in Europe, the aim of which is to create a prerequisite for obtaining qualifications for professional-methodological work necessary for the organization and management of education at the 1st level of primary school. This study programme has the content to improve the quality of teacher training for primary education. The training thus provided, which includes theoretical knowledge, practical skills and additional knowledge based on knowledge and understanding of the socialisation and educational process, mastery of the psychological interpretation of children's development and education, and knowledge, organisation and management of the pedagogical process at the level of the relevant community, is considered to be a good starting point for the further pedagogical work of future primary education teachers. This study programme also has the ambition and prerequisites to motivate its participants or graduates for further studies in the field of scientific and research activities provided by the third level of higher education.

Prospects of graduates
A graduate of the Master's degree programme in Teaching for Primary Education is qualified to be a teacher at the primary education level. Since he/she is also a graduate of the Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, he/she is able to carry out teaching and management activities in institutions of pre-school and out-of-school education of children of the appropriate age, as well as to work in the sector of education of people with cultural disabilities. The graduate has the ability to didactically design teaching in the basic areas of human culture, with an emphasis on the initial acculturation of children, as well as the enculturation of immigrants or members of culturally handicapped minorities. He has a deep theoretical knowledge of the fundamental factors and processes of socialization and education, the cultural context of anthropogenesis and its psychological interpretations. He is thoroughly oriented in the contents of basic general education and can effectively transform them for didactic purposes.

The number of admitted students for the academic year 2023/2024 may be adjusted according to the interest in studies and the possibilities of the PF KU.
Admission Requirements:
- for the study programme Teaching for Primary Education, the basic condition of admission is the completion of a bachelor's degree in the study programme Preschool and Elementary Education;
- for the study programme Teaching of Physical Education (single subject/in combination), the basic condition of admission is the completion of the same bachelor's/master's degree programme;
- for other study programmes, the completion of the same or a related bachelor's/master's degree programme (definition of related fields of study: www.accreditation.sk);
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;
- for teacher study programmes in art education, music education and musical arts (piano, organ or solo singing), the successful completion of a talent test is a prerequisite (see the talent test section);
- other study programmes - without a talent test;
- those applicants who best meet the established admission requirements will be admitted to the study;
- all applicants who have achieved a grade lower than D in the state final examination during their Bachelor's studies must take part in the admission examination in the field of study.
The ranking of applicants will be based on the following rules:
▪ The ranking of applicants will be based on the results achieved in the bachelor's studies (average of the state examination).
▪ In the case of talent examinations, the ranking will be calculated as follows: 50% for the results in the bachelor's studies and 50% for the talent examination.
▪ If more than one applicant meets the admission requirements for a given study programme, those applicants who have demonstrated the highest level of aptitude for the study according to the admission requirements will be admitted.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE
In case the applicant wishes to apply for more than one study programme, he/she has to apply for each study programme separately.
The application must be accompanied by:
- CV;
- certified copy of diploma and certificate from bachelor's studies;
- proof of payment of the fee, which has to be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form. Without proof of payment, the application will not be registered. The admission fee is non-refundable;
- the applicant for the study programme Teaching for Primary Education shall submit a medical certificate of the ability to take physical education without limitations and a certificate from a professional employee - speech therapist that the applicant does not have impaired communication skills;
- the applicant for the study programme Teaching for Physical Education shall also submit a medical certificate of medical fitness https://www.ku.sk/app/cmsSiteBoxAttachment.php?ID=6946&cmsDataID=0 ;
- an applicant for the study programme Special Education and Education of the Mentally Handicapped shall submit a certificate from a professional employee - speech therapist that the applicant does not have impaired communication skills;
- applicants who require specific conditions for health reasons shall inform the faculty about this when submitting their application;
- in the case of applicants who have obtained their first degree abroad, a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for academic purposes (more information on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic: http://minedu.
Confirmation of the registration of the application and information on the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants in writing. In case of a low number of applicants for the study of teaching in one of the subject combinations, the faculty will propose applicants to study in other combinations.

The Art Talent Examination consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. Candidates demonstrate their theoretical knowledge in the art history exam, which focuses on historical or contemporary issues in the visual arts. The practical exam consists of active creative work, which is carried out in each studio, i.e. the studio of intermedia, design and craft, surface art disciplines, spatial art disciplines. The candidate will take a practical examination on a topic that is announced at the time of the entrance examination. The practical examination includes a presentation of a portfolio from each art studio.
