Systematic Philosophy
The graduate knows the scientific methods of research in philosophy, is able to follow the current state of research in philosophy, productively build on it and publicly present new knowledge in scientific language. The basic area on which his/her scientific work primarily focuses is SYSTEMATIC PHILOSOPHY. The graduate of the field will acquire: The methodology of scientific work, the ability to integrate his philosophical investigations into a broader social and cultural framework and to find substantive links with other special scientific disciplines, especially with the humanities and with theology, a purposeful consideration also of value, ethical, ecological, social, legal and, last but not least, religious and spiritual aspects of the issue, presenting its results, demonstrating in them a sense of truth, scientific correctness, originality, novelty, philosophical intuition, as well as the capacity for methodological reflection.
Prospects of graduates
The scope and depth of the graduate's knowledge and practical, especially pedagogical and scientific skills, entitles him/her to achieve the scientific-pedagogical rank of "Associate Professor" (doc.) or "Professor" (prof.), or the scientific rank of "Doctor of Science" (DrSc.) after a certain pedagogical practice in the field and after further scientific research and presentation of findings in scientific publications. The acquired education broadens the graduate's opportunities to work independently in research in various scientific research and interdisciplinary teams. At universities, especially at faculties of social sciences and humanities, he/she can work as an assistant professor in philosophy or in a related field. A graduate of the field works scientifically, brings his/her own solutions in the field of systematic philosophy or history of philosophy, and presents the results of his/her research in a dissertation that meets the content and formal criteria of a scientific monograph.

The selection procedure is based on the previous study results, the professional examination and the professional interview on the applied dissertation topic, taking into account the results of the previous education. Applications from graduates of the study programme or related study programmes will be accepted. The admissions committee decides on the acceptance of the application.

FF TU offers its students accommodation, the services of the university library, departmental libraries, a range of specialised classrooms and departments such as video presentation classrooms, multimedia classrooms, a multifunctional auditorium, a PhD students' office, a Communication Centre, a central IT system, a Modular Academic Information System, a University Pastoral Centre, psychological counselling services, a university canteen, and a number of other support services.
Conditions for international students
The admission requirements for foreigners, foreign students or students who have completed their secondary studies abroad are the same as for students who have completed the degree in the Slovak Republic and are citizens of the Slovak Republic. Applicants who have completed a lower level of studies abroad shall submit nostrified documents of education in accordance with the provisions of Decree No 207/1993 Coll.

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Trnava in Trnava (hereinafter referred to as TU) plans to admit approximately 1 student for doctoral studies in the academic year 2026/2027, depending on the amount of allocated budget funds and the fulfilment of basic and other admission conditions.
The appropriate type of application form must be used for the study.
The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies (PhD. degree) is the completion of the second cycle of higher education.
The Faculty of Philosophy of TU reserves the right to make changes and updates in order to improve the quality of the admission procedure, in accordance with Section 57 (5) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended by later regulations.
Applicants for studies shall submit an electronic application form. Candidates who have completed a lower level of studies before school. 2025/2026, they shall include in the application form a scan of the certified school leaving certificate, diploma supplement and diploma from the M.Sc. studies. Candidates who are completing their lower secondary studies in 2026 will submit their application form electronically, together with a current confirmation of attendance at the school. Those candidates who are taking the entrance examination will present the officially certified documents (diploma and M.A. certificate) in person at the presentation on the day of the entrance examination.
Acceptance of the diploma and the M.A. certificate will be accepted by the school.
The admission procedure begins for a candidate on the day of receipt of his/her application form. For this reason, an applicant who submits his/her application electronically is also obliged to submit it in written form, duly documented (proof of payment of the admission fee, certified M.Sc. diploma,...).
Applicants who will be admitted on the basis of a selection procedure will send certified copies of their certificates within two days after successful completion of the state examination.
The faculty does not require confirmation of the applicant's medical condition. If it is necessary to take a disability into account in the admissions examination process, the applicant must enclose with his/her application a certificate of disability and the recommended form of examination.
Applicants may also submit multiple applications to the College. For each study programme it is necessary to submit a new application and pay the fee of 40,- € again.
Applicants who have completed a lower degree abroad shall submit nostrified documents of education in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 422/2015 Coll. A receipt for the payment of the admission fee (in the amount of € 40.-) must be affixed to the 3rd page of the application form. In case of non-attendance at the entrance examination, the fee is not refundable. The Admissions Committee decides on the points required for admission.
