Social Work
The field of study Social Work creates and prepares independent workers with a university degree, who can secure, coordinate and directly effectuate social work. A part of social work is also the provision of social care and help designated for all groups of inhabitants depending on some sort and form of social work and social services.
Study programmes of both degrees are conceived in such way that it allows the students to acquire theoretical knowledge needed for the performance of social work in practice and also for training and development of practical skills, especially through professional practice and supervision. During the study, we emphasize the independent and creative work of students, development of their critical thinking and support their professional progress.
Social Work is a multidisciplinary field of scientific knowledge, which is dealing with scientific recognition of social issues – with their origin, causes, possible solutions, with the responsibility question of both citizens and state, optimal level and forms of help for an individual, group or community. This study programme is organized to prepare the future graduates for the performance of social work, when he or she comes into contact with the client, in the field of organizational and management activities with the aim at social work and social services, as well as for the scientific and research work in this field.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of our study programme Social Work (Bc., Mgr.) have the opportunity to find employment in the facilities and institutions operating in the following sectors:
- the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family,
- the Ministry of Education,
- the Ministry of Health,
- the Ministry of Interior,
- the Ministry of Justice,
- and in international institutions such as UNICEF, UNHCR and the like.
When searching for employment, essential for graduates of the study programme Social Work is a direct practice:
- through fieldwork,
- in organizations of state administration and local government,
- in non-profit organizations, which are responsible for social work and social services.
Graduates of the study programme Social Work have the opportunity to find employment in the following institutions:
- children´s homes,
- homes for the elderly,
- re-education centres,
- reception centres,
- crisis centres,
- social rehabilitation facilities,
- offices of labour, social affairs and family,
- institutions for the execution of prison sentence,
- community centres and low-threshold centres,
- medical facilities – hospitals, spas, sanatoria, LTCHs (Long-term Care Hospitals), hospice facilities, etc.

Graduates from the major Social Work are educated, autonomous, able to assure, coordinate and provide social care and social services to all social groups across the population who need social aid. Students can specialise in the following fields of social work:

The application form includes:
- curriculum vitae
- confirmation of the admissions fee payment
- medical certificate of eligibility for university studies
- certified photocopies of bachelor study evidences (diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement)
Applicants finishing their bachelor study in the school year 2019/2020 have to submit all of the (certified) evidences of completing their studies until the July 10, 2020.
To the electronic application must be attached the signed printed form of application.
If the applicant doesn´t complete the missing parts of the application within the set deadline after being requested to do so, he/she is excluded from the admission procedure. The admission fee will not be refunded.
Conditions for international students
Applicants, who have completed secondary education at school abroad shall submit a certificate of education certified by a notary. The requirements for admitting students from foreign countries are the same as for students who are citizens of the Slovak Republic.

An applicant will be chosen for the second degree of university studies based on the selection procedure and successful completion of the first degree of study. We will take into consideration also the weighted average for the study results gained during the three years of bachelor´s degree study.
