The graduate of the study field of philology has a broad theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of translation theory, history and development of translation, interpretation and their methods. The graduate acquires basic knowledge of the development of the Hungarian and Slovak schools of translation and interpreting, as well as of the school of translation and interpreting of the foreign language studied, contrastive morphology, syntax, lexicology and stylistics. He/she has a practical level of knowledge of the languages studied and has knowledge of contrastive grammar, lexicology and stylistics. He/she is proficient in all the procedures, skills and strategies of artistic and professional translation as well as simultaneous and consecutive interpreting. He/she has a basic knowledge of legal, historical, cultural and social disciplines to the extent that he/she can translate or interpret professional texts in these languages with full competence. In the field of literary studies, he has an overview of the main literary movements and authors and of the history of Hungarian literature and culture, and of the local history of German- and English-speaking countries. He is proficient in working languages in mediating everyday communication in both written and spoken form.
The graduate of the field (B.Sc.) is primarily prepared to be able to successfully continue his/her studies in this field at the 2nd level of higher education.
Prospects of graduates
A graduate of philology can be employed as a translator of professional texts, translator of artistic texts, interpreter of professional communication, publishing editor, employee in international institutions and in state administration, interpreter and translator in tourism, as well as language and intercultural mediator.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
The basic condition for admission to the bachelor's programme is the acquisition of a complete general secondary education or a complete vocational secondary education. For all of the above programmes of study in the first stage of study in the field of Teaching and Educational Sciences, applicants will be assessed without personal participation on the basis of an assessment of their secondary school results.
Note: For study programmes that can be studied in combination at the same time, the requirements and dates of the admission examinations of the PU faculty that provides the respective accredited programme apply.
If the number of applicants exceeds the expected number of admitted applicants, priority will be given to applicants with a better grade point average.
General information about the admission procedure
a) only one programme of study per application;b) applicants shall fill in the first 3 pages of the application form thoroughly, sign the application form and attach their CV and proof of payment as part of the application form;
c) applicants with specific needs shall contact the University Coordinator Mgr. Žolnová Jarmila, Ph.D., univer. doc.
d) an applicant who takes the final examination after the deadline for applications for studies at the University shall deliver, together with his/her application for studies, certified copies of the end-of-year report cards from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year and the mid-year report card from the 4th year (in the case of 4-year studies), respectively. copies of the end-of-year report cards from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year and the half-year report card from the 5th year (in the case of 5-year studies), and after passing the matriculation examination sends a certified copy of the matriculation examination certificate to the Centre for Languages and Cultures of National Minorities of the University of Gdańsk;
e) an applicant who has passed the matriculation examination in the previous period shall deliver, together with the application for studies, officially certified copies of all end-of-year certificates, a certified copy of the matriculation examination certificate, a curriculum vitae and enclose a proof of payment.
f) applicants with a matriculation examination obtained at a foreign secondary school shall also deliver an officially certified copy of the document of obtaining a complete secondary education abroad - an official translation into the Slovak language by a Slovak translator and notary, document of recognition of the degree of foreign education, digital verification of the authenticity of the education document, recognised school in the country of origin (information from clause 7 and 8 of the clause) and authenticity affidavit of documents;
(g) the basic information required to effect a cross-border transfer from abroad:SWIFT: SPSRSKBA, payee's account number in IBAN format: SK59 8180 0000 0070 0046 9134; bank name: Štátna pokladnica, Ul.
