Timber and wood structures
Graduate Profile
Graduates of the Wooden Structures program will acquire the knowledge necessary for the design, manufacture, and construction of timber structures, including roof structures, carpentry products, and other wood products, using computer-aided design (CAD, BIM) and (CNC machine tools). In addition, they will learn about the unique properties of wood and wood-based materials, as well as the technologies for processing them, which are necessary for their application in timber structures. They will also gain an overview of the wood products and wood-based materials themselves, as well as knowledge of economics and business/operations management. This degree program also emphasizes proficiency in a world language.
Graduates of the Wooden Structures degree program possess the following practical abilities and skills:
- solve basic technological and technical problems in the design, production, and construction of timber structures,
- are proficient in standard methods for determining the properties and quality of raw wood and wood products,
- are proficient in the basics of using computer-numerically controlled (CNC) woodworking machines for the production of timber structures,
- participates in the pre-production preparation of timber structures, carpentry products, and other wood products,
- is able to independently and creatively solve tasks related to the technical preparation and construction of wooden structures, as well as to prepare documentation for comprehensive structural designs of simpler wooden structures and wood products, including separate partial solutions: structural engineering, thermal engineering, and individual manufacturing processes, including drawing documentation—all using computer technology,
- will also acquire craftsmanship skills in the production of wooden structures,
- will be able to keep abreast of developments in their field both domestically and abroad,
- be able to continue their own professional development and pursue high-quality studies at the master’s level.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of the “Wooden Structures” program will find employment primarily as structural engineers and designers of wooden buildings and products, in pre-production planning, and in project management as construction supervisors (preparing, securing, and executing smaller-scale projects, e.g., simple structures, interior furnishings, and carpentry products). Graduates can find employment ranging from small-scale and primary wood processors to facilities and plants for the comprehensive processing of raw wood. They can find employment in production planning and coordination, as well as in specialized roles in the trade of wood products, in the management of technological processes and production operations focused on utilizing wood as a renewable domestic natural resource in the construction industry. This wide range of career opportunities is further expanded by the possibility of working in quality control and testing departments, as well as in expert assessment activities. Given the focus of the specialized courses, there is also the possibility of independent entrepreneurial activity in the construction and furniture industries, i.e., in the field of commercial and business activities.

Admission to the Wooden Structures degree program in the field of Woodworking is based on a selection process without entrance exams, based solely on an evaluation of high school academic performance without the applicants’ participation.

- Required attachments: - All information needed to submit your application can be found after creating your e-application in the university system (UIS), - Attachments must be uploaded electronically.
- Applicants who are taking their high school graduation exams in the school year in which they are applying for admission the grade point average and a transcript of grades from the end-of-year report cards for grades 1–3 of high school must be confirmed by the administration of the applicant’s high school on the e-application form,
- All applicants are required to upload scanned copies of their high school graduation certificate and their 4th-year report card to the university’s system immediately upon receipt—or to bring OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED COPIES on the day of enrollment,
- Applicants who graduated from high school last year or earlier must attach a scan of their high school graduation certificate and all high school transcripts (vocational schools, post-secondary studies) and list in the application the grade point average for each year on the end-of-year report cards for grades 1–4 (or grade 5 as well), 3
- A separate application for higher education must be submitted for each degree program and form of study,
- International students apply for and are admitted to study under the same conditions as applicants from the Slovak Republic,
- Applicants are admitted to the program based on an evaluation of their high school academic performance (except for applicants to the Furniture and Interior Design program),
- Information about registered applications will be published on the Technical University’s website, in the UIS system under “Admissions Results” after entering the applicant’s birth number: http://is.tuzvo.sk/prijimacky/verejne_vysledky.pl,
- the faculty will send an invitation to applicants for the Art program,
- The number of admitted students is determined separately for each study program,
