History and Theory of Arts
The aim of teaching the History and Theory of Art is to prepare graduates to be able to be professionally active in the sphere of art and culture in organizations and workplaces whose focus is determined by the needs of artistic and cultural development, protection of cultural heritage, research and active support of the educational process of the national community.
The History and Theory of Art programme is conceived more broadly than study in traditional sister departments; it is aimed at understanding the meaning and development of art within the broader cultural and religious framework of societal transformations. In addition to the department's deeper focus on Slovak realities, special attention is paid to the preservation of cultural heritage and sacred art, theory and contemporary art and architecture, artistic crafts, and the fundamentals of museology and museum management. The Department cooperates with workplaces at home and abroad, which are engaged in the study of artistic and cultural phenomena close to the Slovak environment in the form of lectures and work in seminars, exercises, on professional excursions at home and abroad.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates can find practical employment in the workplaces of the Monuments Office, in galleries and museums, in institutions dealing with cultural activities and as teachers at secondary and higher education institutions, where they should be prospective, erudite scientific and pedagogical workers.
