Absolvent bakalárskeho štúdia získa základy z dejín a teórie umenia a základné poznatky z dejín kultúry v celom časovom rozsahu od praveku po súčasnosť. Zároveň získa prehľad o pomocných vedách historických a základy vzdelania z oblasti filozofie a estetiky. Nadobudne základné zručnosti v oblasti samostatného výskumu a práce v teréne. Oboznámi sa s legislatívou týkajúcou sa ochrany kultúrneho dedičstva a múzejnej a galerijnej práce.



Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the Bachelor study acquire basics of the history of arts and basic knowledge of the history of culture in general in all of the time scope from pre-historic to contemporary times. They also get an overview of the auxiliary sciences of history and basics of education in the area of philosophy and aesthetics. They develop basic skills in the area of independent research and field work. They learn about the legislation regarding cultural heritage protection and museum and gallery work. They master one foreign language and learn the basics of one of the classical languages. They are able to continue to study at the second level or to work in cultural institutions and following passing of the complementary pedagogical studies they can also teach at primary and secondary schools.

Conditions of admission

Bachelor level of studies: Written part: Test from the field of general knowledge of world and Slovak history, professional terminology, liturgy and iconography, overview of cultural happening and history and theory of arts and architecture (in the scope of secondary school curriculum). All applicants continue with the oral interview. Oral interview: Orientation in the history of arts and a wide area of culture (literature, music, theatre etc.). General knowledge of the subjects — history, Slovak language and literature, identification (style classification) of art works (architecture, Fine Arts, plastic arts), knowledge of art historian literature, knowledge of museum, gallery collections and monuments in the locality of residence and region (or about the most significant ones in Slovakia and in international expositions). Random knowledge of journals and periodicals from the field in Slovakia and abroad from the aspect of future requirements of the studies.

Additional information

The Faculty of Arts offers its students accommodation, services of its university library, department libraries, a whole range of specialised classrooms and facilities, such as the video presentation classrooms, multimedia classrooms, multifunctional hall, office for Doctoral students, Centrum of Communication, a central IT system, Modular Academic Information System (MAIS), University Pastoration Center, services of psychological counsel, university cafeteria and several other support services.

Trnava University does not have its own Hall of residence so far, therefore the management of the university arranged for contractual accommodation from several third-party providers of accommodation. Students are accommodated in hostels according to criteria approved of by the Academic Senate of the Trnava University. Students pay for accommodation from SKK 900 to SKK 1,300 per month. At the beginning of 2005, the university started to build its own Hall of residence.

Catering is arranged in the student cafeteria together with university employees. Students are provided apart from the main course also fast food and additional snacks (in form of a buffet)



Conditions for international students

Conditions of admission of foreigners, international students or students who graduated from secondary school abroad are the same as for students who graduated from the given level of studies in the Slovak Republic and are citizens of the Slovak Republic.

Participants who graduated from a lower level of school abroad will provide nostrified documents regarding education in accordance with the provisions of the Decree No. 207/1993 Coll.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

Uchádzači budú prijímaní bez prijímacích skúšok. Prijímanie sa uskutoční na základe výsledkov stredoškolského štúdia s prihliadnutím na profilové predmety: slovenský jazyk, anglický jazyk, náuka o spoločnosti. V prípade rovnosti bodov budú uprednostnení uchádzači s lepším priemerom z profilových predmetov. Podmienkou na prijatie na štúdium je ukončenie stredoškolského vzdelania a predloženie úradne overených koncoročných vysvedčení za 1., 2., 3. a 4. ročník a úradne overeného maturitného vysvedčenia.

General information on the admission exam

The Faculty of Arts of Trnava University in Trnava (hereinafter referred to as "TU") plans to accept depending on the volume of assigned budgetary resources and fulfillment of basic and further conditions of admission to studies in the academic year of 2009/2010 for the full-timeform of Bachelor studies 450–500 students, for Master studies 300 students.

The corresponding type of the application form needs to be used to apply for the studies (Bc., Mgr., PhD.).

The basic condition of admission to Bachelor studies (the title of Bc.) is completed secondary education or completed secondary vocational education. The basic condition of admission to Master degree of studies (the title of Mgr.) is the completed Bachelor studies). The basic condition of admission to the Doctoral studies (the title of PhD.) is the completed university education of the 2nd degree.

The requirements for accepting foreigners, international students or students who graduated from secondary school abroad are the same as for students who graduated from the given level of studies in Slovakia and who are citizens of the Slovak Republic.

The Faculty of Arts of TU reserves the right to make potential modifications and updates in the interest of improving the admission procedure in accordance with the Article No. 57 Paragraph 5 of the Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Universities as amended.

Applicants for studies submit the filled out application to the address of the registered office of the university: Filozofická fakulta Trnavskej univerzity v Trnave, Hornopotočná 23, 918 43 Trnava. Applicants who completed lower level of studies prior to the school year of 2008/2009 will send the application form and verified photocopies of school reports (for Bc. - secondary school school reports from the 1st to 4th year or 5. th year + secondary school leaving certificate), for Mgr. school reports and diploma from the Bc. studies and for PhD. studies, school reports and diploma from the 2nd level of university studies). Applicants who complete a lower level of studies in 2009 will submit an application confirmed by the school. Applicants taking the entrance exam will submit officially verified documents (report card from the 4th year together with the verified secondary school leaving certificate or diploma and the report card from the Bachelor studies or certificate and diploma from the 2nd level of university studies) personally when registering on the day of the entrance exam.

Applicants accepted based on a selection procedure will send the officially verified copies of school reports (for the Bachelor studies from the last year of secondary school and the secondary school leaving exam and for the Master degree from the Bachelor state exam and for the Doctoral studies from the Master state exams or their equivalent) within two days of successful passing of the secondary school leaving exam or state exam.

The faculty does not require a confirmation of the health status of the applicant. In case of need to consider physical handicap in the process of the entrance exam, the applicant will attach to the application form a confirmation of the physical handicap and a recommendation with regards to the form of the exam.

Applicants may submit several application forms to the faculty. For each study programme a new application form needs to be submitted and a fee paid repeatedly equaling SKK 1,000.00 (EUR 33.19). Applicants applying for the PhD. studies who are interested in both forms of studies, submit application twice while paying the fee only once.

Applicants who completed a lower level of studies abroad will submit nostrified documents confirming their education in accordance with the provisions of the Decree No. 207/1993 Coll. The receipt confirming the payment of the fee for admission procedure (amounting to SKK 1,000.00 / EUR 33.19) needs to be attached to page 3 of the application form. In case of absence at the entrance exam, the fee is not refunded.
