The graduate is able to cope with the theoretical bases of journalist activities in the press, radio, television, press and marketing agencies, has knowledge of the development of world and domestic journalist activities, has practical knowledge, practical experience and technical skills in the area of authorial activities and editorial work in periodic press, radio, television, press and marketing agency, as well as of work in new media and internet, of journalist photographs, presentation with a microphone and before the cameras, which gives them preconditions for independent creative activities, the graduates are able to express themselves in a sophisticated way in the mother tongue owing to the acquisition of contemporary Slovak language and the basic styles of public relations, they have knowledge of the substance and tasks of news and journalism, of the methods of interpreting text, image, sound and audiovisual communicates, of the theories and practice of editorship in the individual media.

The graduate gains abilities to be strong, a natural personality, being capable of dialogue on any topic. They gain experience in how to apply their opinion correctly, but also to accept criticism and counter arguments. They shall manifest professionalism not only in the form of material procession, but also in their contents (aesthetic procession of any topic). Their basic motivation will be objective and true information on the happenings in the society.

Apart from that: they shall work without emotions and mainly with arguments, they gain a sufficient overview of social scientific branches, a global social overview of the happenings in Slovakia and abroad, they get to know the principles of ethical work of a journalist and upon study completion by oath the commit to their observance, get to know and shall respect the Constitution and institutions of the Slovak Republic, work in the name of humanistic ideals and respect towards the democratic establishment of the society.



Prospects of graduates

The graduates from the study programme journalism are able to perform the profession of editors (text and image in periodic press, radio, television, in press and marketing agencies, in new media and internet, in publishing houses), moderators, reporters in editorial offices of periodic press, radio and television - public and private as well. Editor (text and image), moderator, reporter - they have basic knowledge of journalist activities in print, electronic and new media, in internet magazines, in press and marketing agencies and publishing houses, they have an overview of the history of domestic and world journalism, they know the basics of media rights, journalistic photography, presentation with a microphone and before a camera, news and journalistic techniques, of contemporary Slovak language and the basic styles of public relations, computer procession of journalistic text, psychological and sociological aspects of the profession.

Conditions od admission

The basic condition of admission for the study in the second level study programme (Master study programme) is completion of the first level study programme (Bachelor study programme). Other admission conditions for the Master study programme are: obligation to respect the catholic spirit of the university and faculty; teacher study programme (teaching subjects in respective combinations): the final order of applicants will be created based on the weighted study result average during the Bachelor study and the results of the state exam (in total 100 points with the following internal breakdown: weighted study result average - max. 80 points, results of the state exam - max. 20 points); study programme philosophy: presentation of the diploma work project (to be sent together with the application) - maximum number of acquired points 100 (it is necessary to gain at least 60 points for admission); study programme history: presentation of the diploma work project (it shall be submitted not later than 7 days prior to the date of the entrance exams) - maximum number of acquired points is 100 (it is necessary to gain at least 60 points for admission); entrance exam (in total 100 points). If the admission procedure involves an entrance exam for the given study programme, it shall take place in June 2010. If a larger number of applicants meet the admission conditions for study of the given study programme, only those applicants will be admitted who presented by the highest rate of study capability according to the study admission conditions.

General information on the admission exam

It is required to enclose the following to the application: structured CV, verified copies of documents on study completion (Bachelor diploma, state exam certificate, addendum to the diploma, and weighted study result average of the applicant confirmed by the Study Department) - in case of applicants that did not complete the Bachelor study programme at the FA of CU in Ružomberok and in case of applicants that completed the Bachelor study programme at the FA of CU in Ružomberok before the academic year of 2009/2010, in case of applicants who completed the first level of university education abroad, also the decision of recognition of a foreign document on education for academic purposes (continued study in the Slovak Republic - for more information see the website of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic http://minedu.sk part recognition of education documents). In case of not sending the verified copies of documents on study completion by the given deadline (information on the deadline for delivery of the documents will be sent to the enrolled applicants together with the confirmation on application registration), the enrolled applicant will be considered as an applicant that did not meet the admission conditions for the study. The verified copies of a documents shall be addressed to the Study Department and sent to the following address: Catholic University in Ružomberok, Faculty of Arts, Study Department, Hrabovská cesta 1, 034 01 Ružomberok. It is necessary to paste the fee payment slip on the third page of the application (without the payment slip the application will not be registered). The admission procedure fee shall not be returned. Confirmation of application registration together with the information on the following process in the admission procedure will be sent to the applicants by electronic or classical mail. The deadline for meeting the admission conditions for the study: 23. June, 2010. The written decision on the admission procedure result will be sent to the applicants within 30 days as of verification of meeting the admission conditions for the study. The written decision is delivered by strictly private delivery to the applicants. The basic rules of the admission procedure for the study programmes at the FA of the CU for the academic year of 2010/2011 are published on the faculty website (http://ff.ku.sk).
