Learning objectives of the study programme

  1. To provide the student with significant theoretical knowledge in the areas of media systems theory, research methodology, media management, marketing communications, and media spirituality. It broadens and deepens his/her theoretical basis for competent evaluation of current social reality acquired in his/her undergraduate studies.

  1. To develop the student's skills in the area of competent evaluation, interpretation, commenting on social events, including in terms of ethical, moral and theological assumptions.

  1. Develop students' practical skills to create and disseminate journalistic, marketing, and other publiccommunicationsin genre and technological diversity, with an emphasis on the culture of its linguistic expression.

Prospects of graduates

Graduate Profile

A graduate of the Master's degree programme in Journalism holds a full university degree in Media and Communication Studies.A graduate of the Master's degree programme in Journalism is in every aspect prepared to comprehensively fulfil the expectations placed on the performance of the journalistic profession. He is able to work professionally with the written and spoken word and image, and has a high level of proficiency in radio, television and photographic techniques. He has knowledge of media management, which creates the prospect of working in senior media management. He is fully oriented in social events - politics, economy, regional issues, sports and culture. He is oriented in the issues of the relationship between the Church and the media, he knows the basics of religious communication. He knows the principles of institutional communication, which he can use in his profession. At the same time, he has acquired theoretical knowledge that he can use in the field of public relations. He knows the tools and ways of further cultivating his speech and uses them actively. The graduate is characterised by cultivated speech and the ability to react appropriately in a variety of communication situations. He/she is prepared to participate fully in the collective production of journalistic communications in various media communication media and to take the position of a team member as well as a team leader. In addition to working in the media and in news agencies, a graduate of the master's degree is also qualified to hold a competent position in the fields of marketing, advertising and public relations. He/she is theoretically and practically sufficiently equipped to be able to apply for the third cycle of higher education.

- obtaining a first (bachelor's) degree or a second (master's/engineering/doctoral) degree;
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;
- in the case of the teaching degree programme, fulfill the requirements also from the second subject combination (in the case of the subjects offered by the KU PF, the requirements are published on pf.ku.sk);
- in the case of a teacher study programme, obtaining a qualification that can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences defined by the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences (as a rule, this is the completion of the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences, which also includes the Bachelor's degree in Teaching of Subjects in Combination)

- in the case of a teacher study programme

The final ranking of applicants will be based on the result of the state examination.



Additional information

The faculty also reserves the right not to open a study programme to which a low number of candidates applies. In this case, the application forms with all attachments as well as the admission fee will be returned to the applicant.

Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request to be sent together with the application form).

General information on the admission exam

A candidate can submit:
Be an electronic application
- via e-prihlaska.ku.sk;
- such electronic application is not printed, signed, sent to the postal address of the faculty.

OR a paper (not electronic) application
- such a paper (not electronic) application most often on the form ŠEVT is sent to the following address:

Attention! If the applicant submits the application via portalvs.sk, the application must also be sent in paper form to the address of the faculty. In this case, the fee for material support of the admission procedure is 30 €. We therefore recommend using e-prihlaska.ku.sk, not portalvs.sk.

The application form must be accompanied by:
a) a confirmation of payment of the fee;
b) in the case of applicants for the study programme TEACHER OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in combination, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and who have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (Bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, also a certificate proving the level of proficiency in the Slovak language at the level of at least B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Literature.

The following documents should be delivered to the study department (preferably at the time of application if possible):
a) certified copies of documents of graduation (Bachelor's/Master's/Engineering/Doctoral diploma, supplement to the diploma and certificate of state examination), whereas applicants who have been issued with documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (previous studies were completed at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;
b)in the case of applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad, also a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for the purpose of studying in the Slovak Republic.

Information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or paper mail.
