Všeobecné veterinárske lekárstvo

The curriculum of the General Veterinary Medicine programme is mainly focused on the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diseases in companion and farm animals. The curriculum includes teaching ecology and environmental protection. This curriculum was evaluated by a European Community expert committee in 1997 and re-evaluated in 2005 and fully complies with EU standards.

The current status of the university, based on the decision of the European Committee of Veterinary Education (ECOVE), is "evaluated" and "accredited".



Prospects of graduates

In the study programme of general veterinary medicine, the curriculum is mainly focused on the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diseases in companion and farm animals. The curricula include teaching of ecology and environmental protection. Priority is given to theoretical and practical training in specialised clinical subjects according to animal species in the aspects of internal, infectious, invasive and toxic diseases, metabolic disorders and damage to the body by radiation and other adverse environmental influences. In the course of his/her studies, he/she acquires knowledge and understanding of diseases common to humans and animals, thereby contributing to the protection of human health and the reduced incidence of zoonoses in the human population. This study programme was evaluated by a European Community expert committee in 1996 and re-evaluated in 2005 and 2016, fully complying with EU standards. The diploma obtained at UVLF in Košice is valid in EU countries.

Conditions of admission

Admission to study at UVLF in Košice is conditional on obtaining a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education and successfully passing the entrance examination. The ranking of applicants is determined on the basis of the number of points achieved in the biology and chemistry tests and points for work in organisations professionally close to the chosen study programme (work with private veterinarians focusing on small animals or horses, which lasted at least half a year), which the student must provide in writing with the application form for studies.
