General Medicine

By completing the study program, the graduate acquires professional competence for the performance of the profession of general practitioner as well as for further specialization and certification studies. Graduates are qualified to work and research in this field and to continue in their education throughout their lives. Graduates have the ability to manage and provide preventive, supportive, curative, rehabilitative care to patients in the full range of diseases. They master the basics of scientific work, methods of obtaining scientific and professional information and are ready to continue their doctoral (post-graduate) studies. Graduates of the study program of general medicine at JFM CU are employed not only in the Slovak Republic, but also in other countries of the European area and outside the EU.

Prospects of graduates
The graduate possesses knowledge of the fundamental principles of medicine and is capable of applying them in professional practice. They are proficient in basic medical examination techniques using simpler medical instruments, as well as in basic laboratory and diagnostic methods and their interpretation, including diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of more commonly occurring diseases. In life-threatening situations, they are also trained in the fundamentals of providing qualified emergency assistance.

Under the supervision of an experienced physician, the graduate is capable of delivering healthcare services at the appropriate level within the organizational structure. They are also prepared to work in primary healthcare settings. The graduate has a command of the basic principles and organization of healthcare, as well as essential medical legal regulations necessary for professional practice. This foundation provides the prerequisites for obtaining a specialization in various medical fields upon completion of the required practice, postgraduate studies, and examinations, or for engaging in medical research.

Graduates of the General Medicine study program, which prepares students for a regulated profession, are entitled to automatic recognition of their diploma within EU countries in accordance with applicable legislation.

Conditions of admission
The basic condition for admission to the study of combined 1st and 2nd degree in full-time form is the acquisition of complete secondary education or complete secondary vocational education and medical fitness for the exercise of a profession.

The criterion for admission to the study of General Medicine in English shall be the total score obtained in the admission procedure after passing the entrance examination, which shall place the applicant among the maximum number of applicants to be admitted as indicated. Only the score obtained in the entrance examination is included in the overall admission score. Other activities or benefits at the secondary school are not taken into account in the total point gain.

Additional information
The applicant shall pay a fee of €70.00 for each round of the admission procedure in which they submit an application, by bank transfer to the State Treasury account according to the payment instruction generated from the confirmed electronic application, or by postal money order “RI” to the following address:
JLF UK Martin, Malá Hora 4A, 036 01 Martin, according to the generated instruction.

Proof of payment must be attached to the electronic application or sent electronically to the faculty as a scan of the receipt.

The fee is non-refundable after the application has been registered, even if the applicant does not participate in the entrance examination.

If an applicant who submitted an application and paid the fee in a previous round of the admission procedure did not attend the entrance exam and submits a new application in one of the following rounds, they do not have to pay the fee again.

The application must include the following for all applicants:

a) Medical Fitness Certificate for university study, confirmed by a general practitioner
b) A copy of the passport or other ID for identity verification

Only the applicant who registers the application and pays the admission fee within the deadline will be included in the admission process.

It is not required to attach the high school leaving certificate (maturita) to the application.

Applicants shall send an officially certified copy of the high school leaving certificate by post only after receiving the decision of conditional admission, which will be sent to the applicant after the evaluation of the entrance exam results.

Applicants who completed their secondary education at foreign secondary schools shall submit a certificate of equivalence or a nostrification document in accordance with valid regulations.

An applicant with specific needs who requires reasonable adjustments and support services for the entrance examination must submit, along with their application for study, a request for the adaptation of the entrance examination format, specifying the required adjustments and support services. Relevant professional documentation must be attached to this request. An integral part of the application of an applicant with specific needs is the consent of the data subject to the processing of the personal data provided in the request.

The basic requirement for admission to the combined first and second level full-time study program is the completion of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education, as well as medical fitness for the performance of the profession.

The criterion for admission to the General Medicine program in English is the total number of points obtained during the entrance examination, which must place the applicant among the maximum planned number of admitted students.

The total score in the admission procedure includes only the score from the entrance examination.
Other activities (e.g., extracurriculars, school grades, certificates) are not taken into account in the final score.
