General Medicine
Prospects of graduates
The graduate possesses knowledge of the fundamental principles of medicine and is capable of applying them in professional practice. They are proficient in basic medical examination techniques using simpler medical instruments, as well as in basic laboratory and diagnostic methods and their interpretation, including diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of more commonly occurring diseases. In life-threatening situations, they are also trained in the fundamentals of providing qualified emergency assistance.
Under the supervision of an experienced physician, the graduate is capable of delivering healthcare services at the appropriate level within the organizational structure. They are also prepared to work in primary healthcare settings. The graduate has a command of the basic principles and organization of healthcare, as well as essential medical legal regulations necessary for professional practice. This foundation provides the prerequisites for obtaining a specialization in various medical fields upon completion of the required practice, postgraduate studies, and examinations, or for engaging in medical research.
Graduates of the General Medicine study program, which prepares students for a regulated profession, are entitled to automatic recognition of their diploma within EU countries in accordance with applicable legislation.

The basic admission requirement for enrollment in the full-time joint first and second cycle study program is the completion of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education, along with medical fitness for the performance of the profession.
Another admission requirement for the full-time joint first and second cycle study program is the successful completion of the admission procedure, including the National Comparative Exam.
The criterion for admission to the full-time joint first and second cycle study program taught in Slovak is the total number of points obtained in the admission procedure, which ranks the applicant among the maximum planned number of admitted applicants.
The total score from the admission procedure consists of the sum of points obtained from:
a) the National Comparative Exam (NCE)
b) academic performance during secondary school studies
c) other activities

Additional information
Only the applicant will be included in the admission process who, within the period from 1 December 2025 to 28 February 2026, will:
- Register the application
(In the final step, the applicant must check/mark the required attachments for study in the Slovak language: "fee payment" and "medical fitness certificate". The other attachments are only required for study in English. The application must be confirmed only after this step.)
- Pay the admission fee
(A scanned confirmation of payment must be uploaded to the electronic application.)
- Submit a Medical Fitness Certificate
An applicant with specific needs who requires reasonable adjustments and support services for the entrance examination must submit, along with their application, a request to modify the form of the entrance examination, specifying the required adjustments and support services, and must also attach the relevant professional documentation. An integral part of the application for a candidate with specific needs is the consent of the data subject to the processing of the personal data provided in the request.
Conditions for international students
For all study programs conducted in the Slovak language at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (JFM CU), applicants from abroad (i.e. individuals who do not hold Slovak or Czech citizenship and do not possess a Certificate of a Slovak Living Abroad under Act No. 474/2005 Coll. on Slovaks Living Abroad and on Amendments to Certain Acts) are required to provide proof of Slovak language proficiency at a minimum level of B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – CEFR).

The faculty requires electronic registration of the application according to the instructions published on the faculty’s website: www.jfmed.uniba.sk, in the Applicants section.
Knowledge at the level of secondary school curriculum is required.
If an applicant applies with one application for both the Dentistry and General Medicine study programs in Slovak language, only the fee of €100 for the Dentistry program is required.
To correctly generate the payment amount, Dentistry must be entered as the first study program in the electronic application.
The faculty will send applicants applying for the combined 1st and 2nd level study programs (i.e. Master's degree programs without a Bachelor's degree) detailed information about the entrance examination no later than 10 March 2026.
Form of entrance exam
A test in the subjects of Chemistry and Biology (Natural Sciences test) and a test of General Academic Prerequisites.
Tests
The National Comparative Examination (NCE) for the joint first and second level study programs (General Medicine and Dental Medicine) in the Slovak language is organized by the company responsible for its implementation.
The NCE is conducted in the form of a test in the subjects of Chemistry and Biology (Natural Sciences test) and a test of General Academic Prerequisites. The content of the Chemistry and Biology tests does not exceed the scope of complete secondary education, in accordance with § 57(2) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions.
