Midwifery

The graduate is qualified to manage and provide comprehensive preventive, supportive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This care is delivered with a focus on the highest standards of quality, in full accordance with ethical principles and patients' rights.

Prospects of graduates
Upon completion of the study program, the graduate obtains professional qualifications to practice as a midwife. Graduates are qualified to work in a field that integrates nursing theories with scientific knowledge.

The graduate possesses both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to appropriately apply a nursing conceptual model and to use the nursing process method. They are capable of managing and delivering preventive, supportive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

The graduate has a foundational understanding of scientific research and the ability to acquire scientific and professional information. They are also equipped with basic skills for working in a multimedia environment.

In accordance with current legislation, graduates of the Midwifery study program are granted automatic diploma recognition within EU countries.

Conditions of admission
The basic requirement for admission to full-time first-cycle study programs or combined first- and second-cycle full-time study programs is the completion of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education, as well as medical fitness for the performance of the profession.

Another condition for admission to full-time bachelor’s studies (1st level) is placement on the list of applicants ranked in ascending order according to the grade point average from the final year reports for the last three completed years of secondary school, up to the position corresponding to the maximum planned number of applicants for the respective study program. The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, reserves the right to waive this condition in justified cases.

Additional information
The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (JFMED CU) reserves the right not to open the Bachelor's study programs in Nursing, Public Health, and Midwifery in the case of a low number of applicants or for other serious reasons.

An applicant with specific needs, who requires reasonable adjustments and support services during the entrance examination, must submit—together with the application for study—a request for adaptation of the entrance exam format, specifying the required adjustments and support services.

This request must be accompanied by the relevant professional documentation.

An integral part of the application for an applicant with specific needs is also the data subject’s consent to the processing of personal data stated in the request.


Conditions for international students
For all study programs conducted in the Slovak language at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (JFM CU), applicants from abroad (i.e. individuals who do not hold Slovak or Czech citizenship and do not possess a Certificate of a Slovak Living Abroad under Act No. 474/2005 Coll. on Slovaks Living Abroad and on Amendments to Certain Acts) are required to provide proof of Slovak language proficiency at a minimum level of B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – CEFR).

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
Another condition for admission to full-time bachelor’s studies (first cycle) is ranking within the list of applicants sorted in ascending order according to the average grades on end-of-year school reports from the last three completed years of secondary education, up to the position corresponding to the maximum planned number of admitted applicants for the respective study program. The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University reserves the right to waive this additional admission requirement in justified cases.

Only applicants who, within the period from December 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026, meet the following conditions will be included in the admission process:
-Register the application
-Pay the application fee (a scanned copy of the payment confirmation must be attached to the electronic application)

Before confirming the electronic application, it is essential to mark all the required attachments in the system. If they are not selected before confirmation, it will no longer be possible to add or modify them afterward.

This attachment must be selected in the application before confirming it.

Application Fee (Payment Order)
The payment order is generated only after the application is confirmed. However, the attachment related to the fee must still be marked beforehand.

If an applicant is applying for multiple bachelor's study programs offered at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University (JFM CU), they are required to submit only one electronic application and pay a single application fee.

However, if an applicant is applying for one or more bachelor's study programs and at the same time for one or both of the first and second level study programs (General Medicine and Dental Medicine), they must submit a separate application for the non-medical bachelor's study programs and a separate application for the first and second level study programs. A separate application fee must be paid for each submitted application.
