Media and Communication Studies

The aim of the study program is to create a platform for the education and training of professionals specializing in selected areas of media-mediated communication, information, promotional, journalistic, and advertising activities, particularly in the digital environment. The program focuses on the provision of scientific research and development methods oriented towards media communication, marketing communication, and library and information science. Upon completion of the program, students are capable of conducting scholarly research and generating new knowledge in the fields of media, communication, and information studies. They acquire fundamental methodological approaches and are able to apply them creatively in addressing complex scientific problems of media communication at both theoretical and applied research levels. Students master theoretical frameworks and principles underlying the creation of media, information, and communication products and systems. The program enables students to apply their professional knowledge creatively and to contribute to the development of the discipline through the creation of new methods and original scientific findings. Graduates are able to prepare conceptual and analytical materials and to enrich the field through publication in high-quality international journals and publishing houses. They are capable of critically evaluating scholarly work at an international level and of managing teams of professionals as well as media and information institutions. Graduates are proficient in the creative use of information systems and work effectively in digital environments. They are able to apply methods and techniques in the research and design of media, information, and marketing systems, products, and services. The program also provides foundational knowledge in psychology, sociology, ethics, law, as well as in the history, aesthetics, and management of media, marketing, and information activities, enabling graduates to offer consultancy and advisory services in media practice.

Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, research, and managerial positions within information, media, advertising, and marketing institutions. Typical positions include research fellow, university lecturer, methodologist, media and advertising analyst, data analyst, media specialist, editor, commentator, spokesperson, agency journalist, managing editor, data journalist, information manager, digital curator, marketing communication specialist, director and manager of media, marketing, and information institutions, publishing director, creative director, digital librarian, information analyst, public relations manager, and related roles.
Graduates find employment in the public sector (ministries, public relations departments), diplomacy and media policy, the non-profit sector, culture, the commercial sector, social marketing, as well as in libraries, media organizations, and institutions supporting science, research, education, culture, and the media.

Conditions of admission
Admission requirements:

- completed second-cycle (Master’s) university education,
- successful completion of the entrance examination.

Applicants apply for one of the listed dissertation topics.

Information regarding the admission procedure, including the planned number of admitted applicants and dissertation topics for the upcoming academic year, is published on the Faculty’s website at least two months before the final deadline for submitting PhD applications.
The internal regulation governing the admission procedure and enrolment in doctoral studies is available on the Faculty’s website.

The method of evaluating entrance examinations for doctoral studies is set out in the relevant regulation (

Form of entrance exam
A dissertation project focused on the selected topic is a mandatory attachment to the application.
The entrance examination is conducted in the form of an interview.
