Agrarian Trade and Marketing
Graduates of the study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing, in the doctoral studies, acquire professional orientation and competence to perform professions requiring the application of scientific methods of research and prediction of economics and marketing of enterprises. Philosophiae Doctor (PhD.) in the study programme "Agrarian Business and Marketing" after completing the 3rd degree of study, he/she masters scientific methods of research of marketing environment and market data, methods of stimulation and verification of marketing solutions, analysis, interpretation and application of research results of consumer and business subjects, critical assessment and creative solution of complex problems of marketing and business systems. Further, the student is proficient in the methodology and methods of scientific work, formulating and testing scientific hypotheses with market and consumer experiments to develop and advance scientific knowledge in the field.

Graduates of the doctoral study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing have advanced knowledge, skills and competences, thanks to which they are able to carry out original empirical research in the field of marketing, business and consumer behaviour and acquire professional orientation and competence to carry out professions requiring the application of scientific research methods in the context of current knowledge, which they are able to move forward with their contribution. Graduates are able to work in international academic environments, in public and private research institutions, as public policy makers in the field of trade with a specific focus on the agrarian sector, or in management positions in multinational companies. Graduates are able to carry out their own research project, coordinate the work of a research team and, last but not least, transfer the acquired knowledge and expertise into the educational process at a university or private educational institution.

BASIC CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY
Under Section 56(4) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts (hereinafter referred to as "the Act") and under Article 32(1) of the Study Regulations of the SPU in Nitra, the basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is a university education of the second degree.
FURTHER CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION TO THE STUDY
Under Section 57(1) and (3) of the Act, the admission procedure for doctoral studies includes an entrance examination which verifies the applicant's abilities to study.
Under Article 32(2) of the Study Regulations of the SPU in Nitra, during the admission examination the committee takes into account the knowledge of one world language, for foreign applicants the knowledge of Slovak and world languages, the subjects forming the theoretical basis of the chosen study programme and the presentation of theses on the topic of the dissertation (published on the website and on the Euraxess portal). Students' activities in scientific research during the second cycle of studies are taken into account.
Admission to the doctoral programme is by admission procedure at publicly announced dates, as a rule, once or at most twice during the calendar year. Information for applicants is published in Slovak and in English.
If a doctoral candidate chooses a dissertation topic advertised by an external educational institution, the external educational institution must also agree to his/her admission to the doctoral programme. The admission examination (Section 57(3) of the Act) is held before a committee comprising members from the university and members appointed by the statutory body of the external educational institution. The members from the university shall be appointed by the dean for programmes of study carried out at the faculty and by the rector for programmes of study not carried out at the faculty. The entrance examination may, by agreement between the university or the faculty and the external educational institution, be held on the premises of the external educational institution with the participation of representatives of the university.
The admission examination shall be held at the premises of the external educational institution.
Other conditions for admission to doctoral studies also include:
- Completeness of the application form together with attachments and proof of payment of the fee, while it is possible or recommended to submit the application electronically. Other documents that cannot be submitted electronically at the time of application should be submitted during the admission process.
- Personal attendance of the applicant at the entrance examination on the given date. In case of compelling circumstances, the entrance exam will be conducted online through MS Teams.
METHOD OF VERIFYING OTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with Article 32 (2) of the Study Regulations of the SPU in Nitra, during the admission examination the committee evaluates the knowledge of one world language (for foreign applicants knowledge of Slovak and world language), knowledge of the subjects forming the theoretical basis of the chosen study programme and the presentation of a thesis on the topic of the dissertation (the framework project includes a preliminary aim of the thesis, the reason for the choice of the topic, the applicant's prerequisites and motivation for the research of a given topic, a preliminary proposal of the methodology, the expected contribution to the practice). The evaluation takes into account the results and activities of the candidate's professional and scientific activities during the previous studies.
The dean decides on the admission of a candidate to doctoral studies on the basis of the results of the admission examination. Each candidate for doctoral studies must pass an entrance examination.

* The candidate/applicant may provide evidence of a satisfactory level of English language proficiency by means of one of the following three certificates (does not apply to candidates for whom AJ is the mother tongue and to candidates with citizenship of countries where AJ is one of the official languages):
- National language exam at least B2 level
- UNIcert® at level B2 or C1.
- IELTS Academic version (International English Language Testing Service, British Council) with a minimum score of 6.5.
- Cambridge Exam (Certificate in Advanced English, or Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge at a minimum of level B2).
- TOEFL at a minimum level B2.
- Another recognised certificate of language proficiency at a minimum of level B2 according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
- In the event that the candidate/applicant does not provide evidence of a satisfactory level of English language proficiency, such level will be confirmed by a representative of the SPU Language Centre at the admission interview after the examination.

An applicant with specific needs shall, at his/her request, have the form of the entrance examination and the manner in which it is to be conducted determined, taking into account his/her specific needs, on the basis of an assessment of his/her specific needs.
The Admissions Board shall evaluate the result of the admission tests in a closed session. If several candidates for the same dissertation topic participate in the entrance examination, the admissions committee shall determine the order of merit of the candidates according to the result of the entrance examination.

The Admissions Committee will draw up a report on the result of the admission examinations, which will include a summary of the scores obtained in each area, as well as the ranking according to the total number of points obtained. The minutes and their annexes will be signed by the chairman of the admissions board and handed over to the dean of the faculty.
The decision on the result of the admission procedure must be made in writing within 30 days of verification that the conditions for admission have been met.
The dean, when admitting to doctoral studies, has the right to select candidates with better results who are enrolled in other subjects or another study programme.
A candidate who has received a decision not to be admitted to doctoral studies may submit a request for a review of that decision to the authority which issued the decision within eight days of the date of its receipt.

The graduate of the doctoral study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing has advanced knowledge, skills and competences, thanks to which he/she is able to carry out original empirical research in the field of marketing, business and consumer behaviour and acquires professional orientation and competence to carry out professions requiring the application of scientific research methods in the context of current knowledge, which he/she is able to move forward with his/her contribution. Conditions for international students
INFORMATION FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS AND STUDENTS WHO HAVE ABSOLVED A SECOND LEVEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION ABROAD
In addition to the mandatory attachments, a foreign applicant or an applicant who has completed his/her studies at the second level abroad must attach to the application form or Application Form a clause on the recognition of the degree or an officially certified decision on the recognition of the educational document.
Applicants who have obtained their education in EU Member States or in states with which the Slovak Republic has signed a bilateral governmental agreement on the recognition of education documents shall create the clause via the link: https://uznavanie.minedu.sk/recognition-statement/ in the section Clause on recognition of education degree. If a recognition clause is not published for a degree document, the academic recognition process (recognition of the degree document for continuing studies and other purposes) must be followed. Foreign applicants (the exceptions are applicants from the Czech Republic and applicants who have graduated from the Slovak language) who apply to study a study programme offered at the SPU in Nitra in the Slovak language and in a combination of Slovak and English must compulsorily pass an online test and an online oral interview aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Nitra Language Centre (https://cj.uniag.sk/sk/domov/ ) on two dates, of which applicants will be informed in advance.
After passing the language test, the candidate will be issued with a certificate of the test result corresponding to the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The test and the certificate are subject to a fee of € 30,-. If the applicant's language level is below A1, he/she will not be admitted to the course. If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the study, but will be required to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organised by the Centre for Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: € 120). The course will run from 24 August 2026 to 4 September 2026. Upon completion of the course, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of completion. If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the admission requirements.
