Characteristics

A graduate of the 3rd degree Quality and Safety study program can apply scientific management methods and the philosophy of a comprehensive approach to ensuring and improving quality and risk management. The student is able to create a vision, policy and strategy in various situations, create communication links and non-traditional procedures in process-oriented systems. He can develop business self-assessment procedures and create non-traditional measures based on diagnostic improvement procedures. He has knowledge of analysis methodology and process control as well as metrology systems and is able to research and develop new procedures. He can analyze, evaluate and manage risks, as well as propose measures to manage them. At the same time, he can manage and design integrated management systems. He has the knowledge and prerequisites for work in applied research and development of processes and products themselves. He has the knowledge and prerequisites for working in the top management of organizations.

Learning Objectives

A graduate of the 3rd degree Quality and Safety study program solves research tasks aimed at improving practice. Understands and applies various qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods (eg FMEA, HAZOP, ETA, FTA, RCFA, LOPA, 8D). It evaluates and solves the problems of integration of management systems, management of processes, machines and technologies, serious industrial accidents, maintenance management, business continuity and asset protection.
The graduate knows:
- apply software tools for the quality, safety and risk management system in all stages of the technical life of the product and industrial technologies,
- analyze and apply legislative requirements for high-quality and safe products and procedures with the aim of their simplest possible application in practice,
- perform risk analyzes of machines and industrial processes as part of integrated safety within complex management systems and in maintenance management,
- use methodologies and procedures for effective prevention in the human-machine-environment system with an application for intelligent industry.

Learning Outcomes

A graduate of the 3rd degree of the Q&S study program is able:
- to lead and supervise teams, to inspect and certificate technical systems in state and public institutions in Slovakia and within the EU countries at the middle and top level of management,
- independently or as a team member to plan procedures and apply methods within activities in basic and applied research with the aim of minimizing risks as the most effective preventive measures,
- participate in the formulation of projects submitted as part of calls from national and international grant providers,
- present the results obtained from scientific activities, publication activities at the national and international level,
- to be an active member of the management boards, the top management (senior or junior), or member of management in the private, state and public institutions,
- critically analyze the published results of research activities within the scientific areas of "Quality" and "Safety".

Conditions of admission

The basic conditions of doctoral studies (III. degree of higher education) are regulated by § 54 of Act No.131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended.

Admission to doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Košice is carried out on the basis of the Internal Regulation of the Technical University of Košice pursuant to Article 49(4)(c) of the Statute of the Technical University of Košice - Principles of the organisation, evaluation and termination of doctoral studies and the principles of the establishment of expert committees of doctoral studies at the Technical University of Košice.

The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is the completion of the second cycle of university studies and successful completion of the admission procedure.

Application is submitted in electronic form - e-application.
In the application form it is necessary to indicate the name of the study programme, the title of the topic of one dissertation (written in the relevant study programme in the given academic year) together with the name of the supervisor, the form of study (full-time, part-time) and the language of study (Slovak, English). Knowledge of at least one foreign language should also be indicated.

Conditions for international students

Fees for studying a full time study program in a non-national language are € 7,000.

Fees for studying an external study program in a non-national language are € 5,000.

  • resume
  • certified copies of documents certifying completion of studies (university diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement)
  • statement of results of studies
  • proof of payment of the admission fee (postal order, bank statement)
  • list of professional and scientific works published so far.
