5th International Congress of Rusyn Language

We warmly invite scholars, researchers, teachers, students, and all those interested in the Rusyn language and culture to participate in this important event. 

This anniversary congress is held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the codification of the Rusyn language in Slovakia. It will provide a space for reflecting on past language planning efforts, evaluating the implementation of previous resolutions, and exploring new strategies in Rusyn language policy. The congress will foster the exchange of knowledge, experience, and perspectives in Rusyn studies, language planning, Rusyn language education, culture and literature, history and ethnology, as well as digitalization and language management.

• Rusyn language in education: possibilities, strategies and solutions for teaching, creation of textbooks and didactic materials, modern technological solutions in education, teaching methodologies (as a foreign language / as a native language), experiences and challenges in teaching.
• Current state and prospects of the Rusyn language: sociolinguistic aspects, intergenerational language transmission, digitalization, modern technologies and their use (AI, language models, applications, tools), rescue linguistic research (language corpus, projects), archival documents and their use for language development, current linguistic problems in individual countries.
• Strategy, organization and language management: language planning issues, strengthening the Rusyn language in administration, media and online environments, implementation of language rights.
• Rusyn language in literature and culture: development and current direction in literary works , folklore and cultural research, rescue ethnological and culturological research, Translations and interlingual contacts, folklore, ethnography and their role in preserving linguistic identity, literature as a tool for linguistic and cultural revitalization
• Rusyn language in individual functional spheres: current position in the media (print, radio, television, online platforms), the importance of audiovisual media for the revitalization of minority languages (documentaries, fairy tales, audio fairy tales, podcasts), the role of the church in the life of Rusyns from the perspective of maintaining the language (liturgical Rusyn language, problems, challenges, statistical data on the use of Rusyn translations in practice), the functioning of the language in the administrative, official and school administrative sphere (translations, forms, school documents), Rusyn language in stage and theatrical expression (stage speech, moderation, radio plays, radio readings, translations of dramatic works).
