Prospects of graduates

A graduate knows the basic principles of medicine and is able to apply them in his/her profession, he/she masters the basic methods of medical examination using  more simple technical equipment and basic laboratory and examination methods and their interpretation including diagnostics, differential diagnostics and treatment of more frequently occurring diseases. In case of life-threatening situations, he/she also knows the basics of providing qualified first aid. He/she is able,  under the supervision of  experienced physician, to assure healthcare on the relevant level of organisational structure,  he/she is also prepared to work in the primary healthcare, he/she masters the basic principles and organisation of healthcare system, basic medical legal norms needed for performance of the profession,  which give    him/her pre-conditions to acquire specialisation in the individual medical fields after completion of prescribed practice, post-graduate studies and exams,  or he/she could find a job in a medical research. According to the valid legislation, automatic recognition of diploma in the EU countries is guaranteed to the graduates of General Medicine study programme for preparation of regulated profession.

Conditions of admission

1) The basic condition for admission to the study of the combined 1st and 2nd degree in full-time form is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education and medical fitness for the exercise of a profession.

2) Another condition for admission to the combined first and second cycle full-time course is the completion of an admission procedure, including a national comparative examination.

3) The criterion for admission to the combined 1st and 2nd cycle full-time studies in the Slovak language is the total score in the admission procedure after passing the entrance examination, which will place the applicant among the maximum number of candidates to be admitted.

The total points gained in the admission procedure is the sum of the points from:

a) the National Comparative Examination (NCE)

b) performance during secondary school

c) other activities

  • the Faculty requires electronic registration of the application form according to the instructions published on www.jfmed.uniba.sk,
  • knowledge of the secondary school curriculum is required,
  • the faculty will send confirmation of the application form and information about the admission procedure in March 2023,
  • updated information is published at www.jfmed.uniba.sk under studies-applicants-admissions
