The study of Public Health Care is provided in two organizational forms – full-time and part-time.

 

Description of Study Program

Master's Degree

The Public Health Care degree is organizationally provided as a full-time single major study, divided into pregraduate (6 semesters, Bc.), graduate (4 semesters, Mgr.) and postgraduate level (6 semesters, PhD.).

The Public Health Care degree is also organizationally provided as a part-time single-major study, divided into the pregraduate (8 semesters, Bc.), graduate (5 semesters, Mgr.) and postgraduate level (8 semesters, PhD.).

The study program is based on the vision to develop public health care as per the definitions of the international institutions (EU, World Health Organization, European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, ASPHER), and it is designed in line with the Lisbon process.

The study program is a set of subjects, which includes educational activities such as lectures, seminars, exercises, final work, project work, stays, excursions, special practice and state examinations. The study plan is made up of compulsory, optional and elective subjects and the minimum number of credits earned by meeting the relevant conditions must be in accordance with the Study Regulations of the Faculty of Health Care and Social Work, Trnava University.

The Master's degree study in both organizational forms includes a mandatory continuous 6-week prediploma practice for a period of 180 hours in a facility that is directly related to the topic of the diploma thesis. The practice is held in the 4th semester of full-time and 5th semester of part-time study.

Master's Graduate Profile

The Public Health Care graduate is a qualified healthcare professional with broad professional knowledge, ready to independently carry out his/her professional activities in the promotion and protection of health, primary prevention, clinical epidemiology and research.

Competencies of Public Health Care graduates:

  • Carry out state health supervision in the area of living and working environment, occupational health, creation and protection of healthy living and working conditions for children and youth, workplaces with sources of ionizing radiation.
  • Conduct epidemiological supervision and resulting professional activities.
  • Carry out activities in accordance with the principles and concepts of governmental health policy and participate in the objectives of the health promotion programs and health educational projects.
  • Plan the activities related to health effects.
  • Perform medical administration.
  • Carry out expertise activities, analyses of health of the population and the underlying reasons for its changes, provide counseling.
  • Educational and research activities.

A graduate in Public Health Care has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical abilities and skills for work in the public and private sector in the development, promotion and protection of health and planning of activities with an impact on health or health administration. 

Job Prospects for Master’s Graduates

  • Government: ministries and departments of health, environment, public health authorities
  • Self-government: protection and promotion of human health, environmental effects on health and preventive programs
  • Occupational health services: work safety services and occupational health services.
  • Hospitals and other medical facilities, development of health programs and assessment of the quality of the services provided
  • As a researcher with a particular focus on the study of incidence, causes and consequences of communicable and non-communicable mass diseases and the effects of the living and working environment on health
  • As a consultant for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of projects in public health care
  • In pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials
  • Lifestyle consultations and coaching
  • Labor inspectorates
  • Educational institutions

Conditions for international students

Uchádzač, ktorý ukončil vsokoškolské štúdium v zahraničí predloží nostrifikované doklady o vzdelaní.  Požiadavky na prijatie študentov zo zahraničia sú také isté ako na študentov, ktorí sú občanmi Slovenskej republiky.



Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

The applicants in the full-time and part-time graduate study – Master's degree in Public Health Care – must have a completed Bachelor's degree in Public Health Care and other non-specific assessment: participation in ŠVOČ, projects, competitions etc. A minimum of 6 enrolled applicants are necessary to open the part-time study in any given year.

An applicant who has completed his/her Bachelor's degree abroad shall submit aligned qualifications in accordance with the provisions of Act no. 207/1993 Coll. The requirements for the admission of foreign students are the same as those for the citizens of the Slovak Republic
