By completion of the study programme teaching of subjects in combination within the framework of the subject specialisation German language and literature the graduates gain knowledge of the individual levels of the linguistic system of German language (phonetic and phonologic, morphosyntactic and lexical) and functional styles of the language. They know the basic literary science and literary history disciplines and have an overview of the history of German literature. They acquire the basic procedures, analyses and interpretations of prosaic, dramatic and poetry artistic text. They gain knowledge from history, culture and facts of German speaking areas.

By completion of the Bachelor study programme teaching of subjects in combination in the subject specialisation of history the graduate gains the knowledge necessary for independent activities in determined positions and workplaces of historical orientation, or in the field of education. They gain a global overview of general (world) history and national (Slovak) history, of Slovak and world histography, of auxiliary historical sciences and of science methodology. One of the key features of the graduates is their adaptability with respect to the changing contexts of work and ability to acquire new knowledge and skills fast in the field of history teaching. The applicant can continue at the Master level of study.



Prospects of graduates

The graduates find their application as teachers at basic and secondary schools mainly after completion of the following two-year Master study programme. The Bachelor study programme consists of the study of two subject specialisations and from the course of pedagogy and psychology (pedagogic-psychological basis). The programme includes pedagogic practice, mainly at the second level of university study, together with specialised didactics.

Conditions od admission

acquirement of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education, obligation to respect the catholic spirit of the university and faculty, for the study programmes psychology, journalism, philosophy, history, political science, English language for commercial practice, German language and culture, teaching the subject German language and literature, teaching the subject history in combination - taking the precondition exam (see the precondition exams part), other study programmes - without precondition exam, when creating the final order of applicants, the results from the secondary school study and the results of the leaving exam of the applicant are taken into regards.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

It is necessary to attend a precondition exam from German language and literature.

Applicants that pass the precondition exam are included in the following part of the admission procedure in which upon creation of the final order of applicants the results from the secondary school study and the results from the leaving exam of the applicant are taken into regards.

Applicants that do not pass the precondition exam have the possibility to re-register their application to another study programme without precondition exams according to the faculty offer.

General information on the admission exam

It is required to enclose the following to the application: structured CV, verified copies of secondary school reports (from first to fourth year), verified copy of the leaving exam certificate, in case of applicants that acquired their secondary school education abroad also the decision on recognition of the foreign document on secondary school education for academic purposes (continued study in the Slovak Republic) and translation of marks into the Slovak classification system - equivalence (for more information see the website of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic: http://minedu.sk part recognition of education documents). In case of applicants taking the leaving exam in the academic year 2009/2010 the deadline for sending the verified copy of leaving exam certificate and the verified copy of school report of the fourth year is by 14 June, 2010. In case the documents are not sent by the given deadline, the enrolled applicant will be considered as an applicant that failed to meet the admission conditions for study. The documents shall be sent to the following address: Catholic University in Ružomberok, Faculty of Arts, Study Department, Hrabovská cesta 1, 034 01 Ružomberok. It is necessary to paste the fee payment slip on the third page of the application (without the payment slip the application will not be registered). The admission procedure fee shall not be returned. Applicants for the study of journalism shall attach to their application 3 examples of journalistic work (e.g. student newspaper that they cooperated in, published articles, or essay or comments on the current topic in the company). Confirmation of application registration and information on the following process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or classical mail. The deadline for meeting the admission conditions for the study: 21. June, 2010. The written decision on the admission procedure result will be sent to the applicants within 30 days as of verification of meeting the admission conditions for the study. The written decision is delivered by strictly private delivery to the applicants. The basic rules of the admission procedure for the study programmes at the FA of the CU for the academic year of 2010/2011 are published on the faculty website (http://ff.ku.sk).
