Learning objectives of the study programme

  1. To acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of selected areas of philosophy and social sciences, taking into account the teaching nature of the programme of study.

  1. To acquire the basic skills to interpret scholarly texts and make responsible decisions.

  1. To acquire the ability to present key knowledge, formulate problems in the form of questions and offer reasoned and argument-based solutions, taking into account the different age and intellectual abilities of the target groups.

  1. To prepare for use in schools and educational settings, and more generally in the education of children, young people and adults.

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the baccalaureate degree programme Teacher of Philosophy in Combined Studies obtains a complete university education of the first degree in the field of study Teaching and Educational Sciences.The graduate has acquired the basic historical and systematic philosophical knowledge and skills necessary for a teacher of philosophy in the sense of the subjects Doctrine of Society, Civic Doctrine, Civic Education. He/she has adequate knowledge of the methods of argumentation as well as the methods of the most important philosophical disciplines, schools and trends. In relation to specific problems, he/she is able to identify the specific area corresponding to them; to state and explain the standard methods used to solve them; to adapt and apply them in the specific practical conditions of the problem. The graduate has studied philosophy in the context of the pursuit of a dialogue of reason and faith in the spirit of the Catholic intellectual tradition.As a graduate teacher, the graduate understands the socialization and educational process in a broader social scientific context. He/she is familiar with the principles of creating and designing pedagogical environments for the relevant age groups, as well as with current school legislation. He/she is able to methodically elaborate specific pedagogical programmes and implement specific programmes for individual parts of the content of education and training. The graduate has acquired knowledge and skills in the field of social-scientific basis and pedagogical-psychological basis.The graduate of the bachelor's degree of teacher education is able to apply as a teacher's assistant at lower and higher secondary education level. Further, as an assistant teacher of leisure time, state and public administration worker for the relevant area.

Conditions of admission

Admission requirements for study programmes:

PHILOSOPHY, HISTORY, TEACHING SUBJECTS IN COMBINATION (except TEACHING ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN COMBINATION) and INTERMEDICAL STUDIES

  • completion of upper-secondary education or complete upper-secondary vocational education;
  • commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and faculty;
  • in the case of applicants to the study programme TeACHING SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN COMBINATION, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and have not completed at least the first (bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teaching of Slovak Language and Literature, it is necessary to prove the level of proficiency in the Slovak language (according to the Common European Framework of Reference) - at least at the B2 level.

Applicants will be ranked in the final order on the basis of the results of the matriculation examination.



Additional information

The KU Faculty of Arts also offers the possibility of inter-faculty teaching combinations, i.e. the candidate can choose one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Arts and one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Education (accredited study programmes of the Faculty of Arts can be found at http://pf.ku.sk). Applicants for interfaculty programmes must meet the admission requirements from both teaching subject specialisations.

For the music education, art education, and physical education teacher education programs, successful completion of a talent exam is required.

Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request is sent with the application form).

General information on the admission exam

The application must be accompanied by:

a) a certified copy of your high school diploma

b) a receipt of payment of the fee, which must be pasted on page 3 of the application form, in the case of an electronic application, attached as an appendix (without proof of payment, the application will not be registered),

in the case of applicants who have received their secondary education abroad, it is also necessary to submit the following documents no later than the date of registration:

c) a decision on the recognition of a foreign document of education from secondary school for the purpose of continuing studies in the Slovak Republic,

c) a decision on the recognition of a foreign document of education from secondary school for the purpose of continuing studies in the Slovak Republic,

d) a certificate proving the level of proficiency in Slovak language at least B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (valid for applicants for the study programme of teaching Slovak language and literature in combination, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (bachelor's) degree in the study programme of teaching Slovak language and literature).

Acknowledgement of the registration of the application form and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or conventional mail.

Deadline for verification of admission requirements: June 16, 2024 at the latest.

Written decision on the result of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of the fulfilment of the admission requirements. The written decision shall be delivered to the applicants in their own hands.
