Materials Engineering

Prospects of graduates
Graduate of the first degree of university study in the “Materials Engineering” bachelor study programme (the field of study: 36. Mechanical Engineering) has basic knowledge in the area of production, technological processing, degradation and experimental evaluation of properties, considering various types of technical materials. They have acquired the basic knowledge of chemical composition and structure regarding the application of metal, inorganic, polymer and modern composite materials in technical practice. They can also evaluate the properties of technical materials and materials technologies from the environmental aspect. The given graduates have skills and abilities to perform testing of materials mechanical properties as well as they can work with specialised testing equipment in order to evaluate the structure of materials. They have also gained basic knowledge of computational modelling and materials simulation under the loading, resulting into the optimisation of design in terms of operational (in-service) loading. Moreover, the graduates of the given study program have the basic knowledge from the aspect of the impact of technological processes of material production on the environmental components, with an emphasis on the processes of development of new progressive technologies and materials, recycling and remediation technologies relating to the main types of industrial waste. They are educated in such a way to be able to continue in their own professional growth.

Graduate is completely educated for work in industrial plants (companies) in the area of production of technical materials, technological processing of technical materials into semi-finished products and final products, technical preparation and production management as well as in the area of testing, quality control, purchase and sale of materials. He/she can be also employed as and specialist in design for technical design offices (companies). Graduate of the given study program also has basic knowledge in the area of investigation of the impact of technological processes of materials production on the individual parts of environment and it is with an emphasis on the processes of development of new progressive technologies and materials, recycling and remediation technologies for the main types of industrial waste as well as implementation of the wasteless technologies into the industrial practice. Moreover, the graduate is able to carry out and analyse experiments independently and it means, he/she can also be employed as a researcher in chemical and material laboratories. He/she is able to manage and control the technological production units, processes and equipment, while the ecological aspects are taken into account, including proposal and recommendations for protection of air, water and soil. In addition, he /she is can also evaluate the impact of waste on the environment.
Graduates of the given bachelor study programme can continue in their engineering study at our faculty, university or at any other universities with the same or related study programmes and study fields.
