The aim of the study programme is to provide its graduates with professional orientation and competence to perform professions requiring the application of scientific methods of research and prediction of economics and business management. The aim of the study programme is to make the philosophiae doctor (PhD.) proficient in scientific methods of research work, basic principles of objective evaluation of exact results of scientific research, the context of development of integration and globalisation tendencies in the field of business economics with an orientation to economic analysis, corporate strategies and their implementation, complex problems of management and functioning of business entities.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission under Section 56(3) of the Act is the completion of a second-degree study programme in the same or a related field of study. Admission is subject to the following conditions:

  1. completeness of the application form (application form + annexes to the application form) for doctoral studies, where the annexes to the application form are:
  • resume signed by the applicant,
  • documentation of education at the 2nd level of higher education (hereinafter referred to as 2nd level of studies)- documented no later than on the date of enrolment:

(a) for documents of education issued by a higher education institution in the Slovak Republic or the Czech Republic, a certified copy of the diploma and copies of the state examination certificate and the supplement to the diploma of the 2nd level of study shall be submitted

(b)for educational documents issued by a foreign university (except as provided in (a) above), a certified copy of the diploma and diploma supplement2 shall be submitted. degree; the documents must be officially translated into the Slovak language and the diploma of completion of the 2nd degree recognised in the Slovak Republic(Recognition of higher education)

  • motivation letter,
  • framework project on the dissertation topic (includes a description of the theoretical and methodological background of the chosen dissertation topic (DP) + the candidate's anticipated procedure for developing the DP)
  • developed presentation on the dissertation topic
  • a copy of the proof of payment of the admission fee

2. and the candidate's participation in the entrance examination on the given date

Conditions for the organisation of admission examinations

  1. Admission to doctoral studies is by way of entrance examinations on the basis of an invitation.
  2. The admission examinations will be held before an examination board of at least four members. It shall consist of a chairperson and at least three members appointed and dismissed by the Dean of the Faculty. The exact composition of the Board of Examiners will be determined after the closing date for applications. The interview will be conducted either by online interview on the day of the entrance examination or by personal attendance on the day of the entrance examination, as decided by the Dean of the FEM.
  3. In the admission examination, the examination committee takes into account the candidate's professional knowledge of the chosen study programme, prerequisites for independent scientific work and activities in study and scientific activities during the previous stages of study.
  4. In the admission examinations the applicant shall demonstrate the ability to study in a foreign language. The entrance examination will be conducted in the form of communication in a foreign language on a selected part of the presented project (point 5, letter b)).
  5. Content of the admission examination in the form of an oral interview:
  • Presentation of the project on the selected topic of the dissertation (home preparation of a maximum 10-minute presentation using ICT) - the aim of the work, the reason for choosing the topic of the dissertation, the applicant's assumptions for researching the topic, literature review, preliminary proposal of methodology, methods of obtaining background data, etc.
  • Communication in a foreign language on the selected part of the presented project.

6. The stated evaluation criteria for the eligibility of applicants for admission are supplemented in accordance with Section 57(1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended by later regulations, by the following aspects:

  • social aspects,
  • physically handicapped applicants,
  • interest of foreign Slovaks,
  • regional aspect (acceptance of economically lagging and structurally weak regions in the appeal procedure)

An applicant with a disability shall, at his/her request, have the form of the entrance examination and the manner in which it is to be conducted determined, taking into account his/her disability.
