Social work
Master's education in social work is the second level of higher education, it is intensive and applied. The content is based on the scientific and methodological concept of social sciences and social work. It is provided in accordance with the recommendations of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), the guidelines of the European Union and in accordance with the professional and value orientation of the St. Elisabeth School of Social Work in Bratislava.
The aim of the second level education in the field of social work is for graduates to acquire such professional knowledge, practical skills and competences that they are able to improve the social functioning of clients, to be able to implement community planning, to actively influence social policy and to be capable of managerial activities. Graduates will acquire professional knowledge, practical skills and competences during their studies:
- deeper knowledge of social work theory and methods, as well as their understanding necessary for systemic, comprehensive and holistic social work with social work clients, especially empowering, enabling and improving their quality of life; understanding of systemic tools of applied social policy in its specific fields, necessary to promote social cohesion, social development and the implementation of social change in society;
- ability to apply methods, techniques and methodology of social work in direct work with all target groups of social clients, with emphasis on group, community, migrants. seniors, the sick, persons with socio-economic problems, and persons in prison or detention and upon their release;
- ability to design, implement and maintain large-scale integrated solutions involving determinants of problems in macro, meso and micro environments;
- ability to interdisciplinary collaboration, team management, human resources, social service facilities and social organizations;
- social competencies necessary for leading and facilitating groups and teams, specialized social counseling, management of social institutions;
- competencies to formulate information about the process and results of solving problems in social work and social policy, to communicate professional opinions with experts and to present social work to the general public; ability to find and present own solutions to problems in research and project activities.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of the Social Work with Migrants programme have the opportunity to work at all levels and sections of social work practice as social workers, social counsellors, mediators and managers in social institutions. They can work in the central government departments (Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Migration Office of the Slovak Republic, etc.), in local governments and in departmental educational institutions. Graduates of this master's degree will find employment as social workers in institutions of state administration, local government, in social service institutions, in institutions of the Migration Office, in non-profit organizations oriented to helping migrants, in institutions of social-legal protection of children and social curatorship. They will be employed as managers in social organisations, in public administration, in social economy, in management and control institutions. He/she can actively participate in the development of social policy and social legislation, as an analyst and researcher in institutions dealing with social problems at local, national or international level.

Applicants who will take the state examination after the deadline for the submission of applications shall provide the diploma (certified copy) and the certificate of state examination (certified copy) additionally (§ 58 (1) of Act No. 455/2012 Coll., Art.455/2012 Coll., Art. amending Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education as amended) before the enrolment deadline, so that a decision on admission to study can be sent.
Without submitting a certified copy of the diploma and a certified copy of the certificate of state examination, the applicant will not be enrolled in the study (§ 59 (3) of Act No. 455/2012 Coll., as amended), the applicant will not be admitted to study (§ 59 (3) of Act No. 455/2012 Coll., as amended). amending Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended). - proof of passed examinations and credits for bachelor's studies (not valid for graduates of VŠZaSP St. Elizabeth)
- student applicants who have studied at a foreign university - Decision on recognition of the equivalence of the document on education (photocopy of the decision must be officially certified) and at the same time provide an uncertified copy of the foreign document on education,
- Curriculum Vitae (signed)
- certificate of medical fitness to practise - from a doctor (for medical disciplines only)
- the applicant for the external form of study shall provide details of employment on page 2 of the application form
- proof of payment by deposit into an account
General information about the admission procedure:
- the college reserves the right not to open the first year of a programme of study for which insufficient applicants have applied
- an applicant who has paid the admissions fee, has been sent an admission decision and does not enrol will not be refunded
- the fee will also not be refunded to applicants who are not admitted on the basis of an incomplete application
- the registered application form with documents remains on file and in the archives of the college - it is not returned
