Child Development and Family Studies
The curriculum responds to the changes in postmodern society and the development of knowledge. In the context of the field of social work, it specializes in work with children, youth and family. The programme is based on the demands of the labour market and seeks to respond to them in innovative and creative ways.
Teaching is concentrated on the acquisition of knowledge, experience and skills in the field of bio-psycho-social development of the child and focuses on methods of working with the family.
The program is characterized by being innovative in its preference for modern methods of working with the child and his/her family, flexible in the educators' approach to the students, creative in the opportunities for their self-development and self-realization, and distinctly multi-disciplinary in nature. Its studies provide in particular : social-psychological competences for work with the family and the child, professional applicable knowledge in psychology, pedagogy, law, sociology, pediatrics, economics and management; to acquire and develop practical skills in specific communication, in rehabilitation, counselling and therapeutic techniques, in advocacy, mediation and management.

The graduates of the programme will find their employment in various prevention, counselling and therapy centres for children, youth and family, in social service institutions, in some school and health care institutions. They are prepared to perform direct work with children and families in the field, in an outpatient clinic or in a residential type of organization.

Conditions for admission
The basic condition for admission to the study programme Child Development and Family Studies is, in accordance with Section 56 of Act No. 131/2002 on Higher Education, the acquisition of a complete secondary or complete secondary vocational education.

- medical certificate of eligibility to study at the university

- certified copies of annual report cards and high school diplomas
Electronic application must be accompanied by a hard copy application form with signature.
If an applicant fails to complete the required parts of the application form within the stipulated time limit after being asked to complete the missing parts of the application form, he/she shall be disqualified from admission. The admission fee will not be refunded.
Applicants from abroad who apply to study a study programme in the Slovak language must successfullynot pass the SJ test.
